Been posted before, but basically Greenberg has dedicated a whole current column to execrating another pompous, boring long gone libertine blow hard and playing a little cutesy about who it was. Surely Vidal can’t still be getting under Greenberg’s skin from the grave?

the Patriot Act is "as despotic as anything Hitler came up with"

On that count, Vidal was absolutely correct, proving that old adage about blind squirrels occasionally finding acorns.

Superior review of a very minor "intellectual".

A bit**y old queen whose pen became more poisonous with each passing year.

He will be remembered only in passing and not kindly.

Pretty good writing.

For some reason I always confused Gore Vidal with Gene Rayburn. Both were often on TV when I was about 12 years old.

Sort of the visual equivalent of confusing “there’s a bathroom on the right” with “there’s a bad moon on the rise.”

Ah, the Wonder Years. The formative years: ages one through twelve.

And to illustrate how incredibly bankrupt the vapid era of Kennedy worship was, this cretin was elevated to the inner sanctum of their phony Camelot.

The Joyce Carol Oates line was very funny. Vidal may have been an execrable human being but he had a gift for one liners.
