Craig Karpel is a recovering addict. He says so himself. His addiction is to Barack Obama, and his recovery inspires him to write a book. He offers a 12-step program, patterned after the program that has rescued thousands of town drunks.
Hes a confirmed Obamaholic, but he doesnt blame the president. He absolves Mr. Obama of blame for the addiction to the messiah from the South Side of Chicago that turned so many healthy Americans into junkies. His book has created a bit of a buzz already.
My name is Craig K., he says in the opening line of The 12-Step Guide for the Recovering Obama Voter, published by HarperCollins Broadside Books.
Im an Obamaholic. Welcome to what Alcoholics Anonymous would call a meeting in print. Were here to admit to each other and to ourselves that the Obama presidency isnt Obamas fault its ours. We should be impeached for having elected him.
Though the collective stupor induced by Mr. Obamas speechifying four years ago is finally dissolving, little by little, theres still a lot of stupor out there. Gallup only this week said Mitt Romney has edged ahead of the president in a national poll of voters, but what is remarkable to the sober observer is that Mr. Obama is keeping it close, given the unholy mess he has made of the economy.

Step One: Get a Lobotomy
Were here to admit to each other and to ourselves that the Obama presidency isnt Obamas fault its ours.
i dont recall having much choice in 08, or this time around with the machine of politics...
I did however, own my alcoholic actions, and this dumbass makes a mockery out of millions of people dying from alcoholism and the attempts to help them find God and recover...
He’s on a fool’s errand, but it might be an interesting study in human nature to leave one of these books out in the office lounge and see what kind of attention it gets.
For Obamaholics, hasn't that horse already left the barn?
I see your point.
” - - - he was or a fraud laughing at how easy it was to fool so many people.”
Yup.

There was rapturous dancing and shouts of joy in Jonestown, until that last half hour.

Step One: Stop jonesing for more of my money!
Is he the guy that owns the tunnel?
Maybe FR Reeducation Camp, instead. Your mistake 4 years ago could have been prevented, had you opened your eyes and ears a bit.
When was the last time you went to a meeting? Virtually every speaker I've ever heard has mocked his own disease.
maybe you should seek better speakers then ??? 8^}
i understand and have no problem with mocking my own *insane* past...but the fatality of alcoholism is nothing to be mocked and taken lightly...
especially when using the POS totus to do so...
I found AA entertaining, but I believe that its value is overemphasized by a small percentage of strict adherants and its success rate is actually not that impressive. I haven’t had a drink almost seven years because I choose not to, not because I have some cop-out disease. If it works for you, great, but its still a self-help program, not a religion.
i had 10 yrs and drank again, for what i thought was 'medicinal' purposes... and damn near destroyed evrything around myself for nearly 2 yrs...
because alcoholism is indeed a demostrably physiological illness...
if you dont have it, again, good for you, but quite frankly my inability to stop on *will power* damn near killed me when i had the attitude of it being a *cop-out*...
the success rate is abysmal in the last few decades because too many people thought it was a dumping ground for everybody with every problem...
the 'religion' of AA is another problem entirely...instead of working the steps, finding God and recovering, too many people go to a meeting and think theyre cured, idolizing the meetings...the power of fellowship is no replacement for the power of God...
hopefully, you dont have to worry about it tho...
You're missing my point: If AA works for you, great. It doesn't work for the overwhelming majority of people who try it, but that doesn't mean I think it doesn't do some good. My point is that it is open to be mocked critized and parodied like any other self help group.
the *program* [in the book, not the meetings] is still highly successful for actual alcoholics who are willing to do the work...since the founding, *hopeless* drunks have always been more apt to grasp the program...just because a non-alcoholic goes to a few meetings, or worse yet a true alcoholic does so, and never recovers, doesnt count against the success of those who actually do the deal, as outlined in the book...
it aint about not drinking, its about finding a relationship with God and man that eliminates the mental obsession to be like 'normal' drinkers...
and yes, everything is fair game to mock and ridicule, even *religion*...i only hope to break the cycle of everybody and their brother assuming that AA is where all of societies ills belong, as theres a small percentage of people dying a horrible death, who cant/wont find recovery because the rooms are full of people who truly dont 'get it'...
sorry to seem like Im ranting *at* you, simply trying to spread the truth of my experience to anyone that feels hopeless about their drinking...
