MO Senate Race: Why Not a Write-in Candidate? It worked in Alaska
August 23, 2012 | pistolpackinpapa

Well, this is a "Hail Mary" pass, but does anyone think it would be possible to pit a write-in candidate against McCaskill in the MO Senate race? It worked for Lisa Murkowski in Alaska 2 years ago. I'm thinking that with all the publicity the Todd Akin statement has brought to this race, it might work. Maybe Sarah Steel with strong support from Sarah Palin? I dunno. I don't really care who it is as long as they are Conservative. I know some folks on here think Sarah Steel in not Conservative "enough". But, at least she's not McCaskill.

Anyhow, I know time is short, but like I say. Murkowski witch pulled it off in AK. Does anyone think this is worth a try?

I mean; what will it hurt to try. Right now, McCaskill is a shoo-in.

Big difference: in AK, the write in was an established senator. Still, it’s the only option now.

This is too early because of Akin.

He is being ostracized by all groups and money

Huckabee runs ads to overturn Obamacare, well the first step is to get Akin out Huckebee

Sorry, such a write-in campaign would only make McCaskill more of a shoo-in.

Our goal should not be to attempt to defeat Akin (he’s doing that himself) but to defeat McCaskill.

Lisa Murkowski did it with less favorable circumstances

Either I haven’t had enough coffee this morning or you’re drunk. You comments made absolutely no sense to me.

Well, that comment is about a clear as the Detroit River. So what would you suggest? Akin is going to lose by 20 percentage points. If I lived in MO, I would not vote for McCaskill, but I would not vote for this self-serving idiot.

Alaska was never going to send a Democrat to the Senate. This allowed Dems to vote for Murkowski instead of their own nominee. Unfortunately, McCaskill is a viable candidate, so no write-in candidate from our side would get any Dem votes. He would only split the Republican vote.

As I said in another thread, Akin needs to remind Missourians of why they dislike McCaskill.

It will give the race to McKatKiller. NOT a good idea.

This could be a good idea ONLY because Akin has effectively lost this oppportunity. Since this is a pick up opportunity that is now lost what harm could having a star like Kitt Bond of JoAnn Emerson step forward to run a write in?

I agree with you, I think doing nothing gives it to Claire. Akin won’t drop out until it’s too late for us to make other plans. I’m a pro-life, homeschooling Missourian. I will never cast a vote for Akin.

Murkowski won because a large number of dems crossed over, when they realized their candidate had no chance. That isn’t the case here, Akin makes the dem a prohibitive favorite, and a third candidate makes her a lead pipe cinch.

Yeah, now we have sore loser RINO Murkowski (a 50 ACU rating in 2011) instead of Joe Miller. The GOP Establishment cares less about the voters and more about keeping themselves in power even if it means overturning the results of a primary.

The fact that Murkowski was welcomed back into the Rep caucus is a sad commentary on the state of the GOP.

Why are you against Akin? He is the most conservative member of the Missouri Congressional delegation. What has he done that makes him so odious?

No she's not, but if there is a write in campaign that splits the GOP vote, she will be a shoo-in.

you are exactly correct.

“ I know some folks on here think Sarah Steel in not Conservative “enough”. But, at least she’s not McCaskill. “

Akin’s one gaffe, is still less bad, than Steel’s supporting lawyers against tort reform.
and certainly Akin is worlds better than McCaskill.
...i don’t understand why any true conservative,
would want to replace Akin with someone worse,
or suggest a write-in vote,
that would guarantee a McCaskill win.
(...i adore Sarah... but that is simply a bad bad idea...)

Maybe Sarah Steel with strong support from Sarah Palin?

"Sarah Steel" (sic), since she lost in the primary (finished third, in fact), is ineligible, by Missouri law, from running in the general. Steelman would not win anyway. (BTW, Sarah Palin had very little influence here in the primary, and she would have very little here in the general.)

If there is to be a write-in effort, it would only happen if a "legitmate" poll shows Akin about 20+ points behind and he has not withrawn by September 25. Then the only person with any chance of pulling off a write-in would be Kit Bond.

If Akin does withdraw, the two best replacement candidates would be Ann Wagner or Kit Bond.
