NEA VYSSA, Greece (AP) -- Border police jeeps hurtle along hot, dusty tracks past potato fields on their way to the river that marks the Greek-Turkish border. Sirens blaring, the convoys have been repelling wave after wave of migrants.

...

In Athens, the operation is being bolstered by mass roundups of suspected illegal immigrants. They are seen lined up on the streets of the capital every day, many in handcuffs, waiting to be put in detention until they can be deported. In the first week of the crackdown in early August, police said they apprehended nearly 7,000 people for identification checks; nearly 1,700 were slated for deportation.

Amazing that a country teetering on the brink of total collapse can somehow muster the wherewithall to round up illegals and send them packing.

When there’s a will, there’s a way.

Stick that to the “Well, we can’t just round them up and send them all home, “ whiner crowd.

Can’t even add up all the times I’ve heard this one lately.

It CAN be done, when it NEEDS to be done!!

Amnesty’s Jezerca Tigani said in a statement. He warned that many immigrants fleeing war zones and potential persecution from dictatorial regimes were being denied a fair asylum assessment.

**

This is what gets me. You know what? Americans faced a dictatorial regime some 300 years ago in THIS country. Did we run and hide? Well, yes, we fled our native countries to America — and then they showed up on our soil. So we had choice but to fight.

And fight we did — and we thus, gained our independence.

I don’t know if a fair comparison can be made, but why cannot people from these countries fight? Why don’t they do the courageous thing and STAY in their countries to fight against what they feel is wrong???

Why is it always someone else’s duty to employ, house, feed, and clothese these world-wandering refugees from so many places?

And let us hope that we can expell the illegals from this country at some time in the near future! Our borders are sacro-sanct...we don’t need no steenkeen illegals!

This is only news to the AP. All the Euros have been getting on illegal bums for quite some time now. Most actual recent story, just yesterday, is the Romas being thrown out of France. The Romans have been throwing out Nafricans. The same with Spaniards. Krauts are throwing out everybody. The English are PO’d about a whole lot of people. But but but I thot Erdogan was the islamoslime savior of turkey? The border states are still absorbing Syrians but you know that ain’t gonna last for long.-———————————————————————————————the Eurotrash news services, Deutsche-Welle, Aljazeera English and other have been regularly reporting on the general crack down, er-crack-up, aw shucks I don’t know which way the crack goes? But there’s plenty of play-by-play reporting on the size of the crack.

While the Gleeks are still making payments to everyone who was getting one they actually are cutting them by as much as 50% so far and that includes not only welfare basket cases but public employees also. On the public employee side they have had a couple rounds of layoffs already but still have too many trash pickers on the rolls.

You are making a fundamentally important point—if poor or oppressed people leave the places of poverty and oppression, the pressure to change those places is reduced. This makes some people in the US complicit in continued misery in those countries because we make a place for those people to go and reduce the pressure on their home countries. Shallow ideas of “compassion” result in continuance of misery that otherwise might change.

Therein lies their problem. Everybody they try to reduce will be upset. They therefore have to pick people they can cut off without risking political upsets that will overthrow the current ruling elite, which means that classes of immigrants who disproportionately consume welfare will have to go.

Illegal immigrants are currently 10% of Greece's population. Note: ILLEGAL immigrants, not legal immigrants. Something's going to give, and it will be soon, or the anti-immigrant Golden Dawn party will sweep the next election.

Good point - even bankrupt socialist Greece realizes they will be fiscally ahead to spend the money to get rid of the parasites.

Sounds like something we've done before in the US as well.
