Immigration one of the few sticking points in GOP platform
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 8/22/12 | Michael Van Sickler

Immigration is one of the toughest issues for the Republican Party to navigate.

Getting tough on undocumented workers appeals to the party's sizable law-and-order contingent. Yet easing the borders so that workers from other countries can perform low-wage or high-tech jobs is popular with the party's business-minded members.

These two sides clashed this week as more than 100 delegates met at the Marriott Waterside to draft the Republican platform, a document that sets general policy guidelines for the party as it heads into its national convention next week. Immigration is such a contentious issue that it provided one of the few visible signs of discord during the writing of the platform, which was approved as a draft Tuesday night and will be voted on next week by convention delegates.

So now we have romney confessing he is not as pro-life as he claimed he was in the primary. He’s for abortion for rape and incest. Last month he says gays should adopt innocent children. Romney is the liberal that conservatives warned about. The gop-e does not want the fight on social issues so they don’t care about conservative. Now they are talking about immigration. Why don’t they just join the democrat party? Romney WILL will lose the base.

You know America is in trouble when freeloading foreign invaders are a “sticking point” in OUR politics.

'Romney WILL will lose the base.'

I disagree. People will come out in force to support Romney.

Romney and GOPe knows this and once 'they' win. Will in all likely hood push for some form of amnesty. Thus, confirming this is all for show. Forcing one group to act as the belligerent, in order to gain the overall goal of both groups.

Besides, what's the point of a political platform if the person on the platform doesn't intend to follow it. Keep in mind, the 2004 GOP platform opposed amnesty, yet the leader of the party pushed form amnesty a few months later. lol.

He’s no better than obama with a brain, the only difference between the two except one is white and one is black!

They are NOT undocumented workers -—or anything of the sort. IF you don’t like the term ILLEGAL then just call them foreign nationals-—which is also accurate. AND foreign nationals do not deserve squat from us

Only the fringes who want Obama reelected anyway so they can claim to be pure through-and-through. I call them Pontius Pilate voters. ( You lot know who you are. )

It is not a matter of “undocumented,” nor is it a matter of “immigration.” It is a matter of most of these felons being “illegal aliens” - aliens that do not belong here, period, regardless of whether they fulfill some labor source for selected businesses or not.

Whether they swim a river, hop a fence, burrow through a tunnel, get “muled in,” or overstay a visa, they are criminals once the act is committed.

To condone the acts by amnesty or other humanitarian programs like Obama’s new voter effort is that first act of lawlessness that just leads to others (e.g., not prosecuting blacks for hate-crimes against whites, voter intimidation outside polls, illegal searches and detainment in transportation, et al).

Putting these people in a ‘special status’ other than in jail subverts the rights of true citizens and diminishes them irreparably. The GOPe and business should know better.

So these ‘delegates’ are ‘voting’ on the GOP Platform.

Who, specifically, is actually ‘writing’ it?

Are the writers or delegates actually soliciting input from the voters whom they supposedly represent?

If not, why not?

Any discussion of Term Limits? Or are the Establishment RINO’s guarding the henhouse?

“Another stupid comment from Bob in the peanut gallery.”

I believe that my comment was a reasonable, albeit arguable, suggestion regarding policy.

I also believe that mods keep track of UNPROVOKED personal attacks, and don’t like them on this site.

I believe the owner of this site is committed to immigration enforcement and would disagree with your inane comment.

Romney is a liar who sold himself in the primary as “seriously conservative” and even said he was against stem cell research. He said he was also very pro-life and many people believed him. Now that he got the nomination, ( many of us are praying for an act of God to not punish us with an Obama II) he's starting to show his liberal colors. If he becomes president, he won't have to hide it any longer. Everyone said we can hold his feet to the fire if he moves left. He's moving left already and I don't see anyone lighting a match. Some people around here will let people lie to them and use them for their vote. The gop-e and romney, do what the democrats do to their voters-SCARE their voters and tell them that the world will end if ____ is elected. Some people fear Obama so much they would replace him with with Hitler. Imagine how the German's who voted for him, felt about their decision 10 years later. I won't have any regrets.

We are not looking for pure, but how about not lying just to get the primary. Everyone is already holding their nose to vote for him, but some of us see he is another Obama. In fact, from what I hear, Romney lost more social conservatives over his Akins comment. Yes, I know all the paid radio talk show entertainers (who work for clear channel, which is owned by Bain Capital) want Akins out, but we already figured out the gop-e wants social conservatives only for our vote, then it's get in the back of the bus, and don't speak.

Christian who knew he was lying about his well-timed conversion to conservatism, stand with God; against abortion, the gay agenda, global warming lies (you know he still believes that?) It was Pontius Pilate and the pharisees who persecuted Christians because they would not give up their faith and actually wanted to live that faith. Kinda like the gayforce are doing to Christians today. Ridicule them, intimidate them, try to drive them out of business, shoot them, run over them.....because they actually live their faith; Some think we should put Romney and the party before before God. I and many others won't sell our soul.

“...your inane comment.”

That’s two personal attacks in a row (although this one was a bit milder - so you’re improving). I guess you want to test their patience. Like I say, it’s ok to disagree, it’s not ok to engage in personal attacks.

Just to help you understand my comment: I’d rather not have immigration in the platform than to have Romney’s or The Establishment’s Open Borders position put in writing. I don’t believe you will find ANYWHERE in my 13,000 posts an Open Borders position.

Commenting on one of your posts is not a personal attack on you. Calling somebody a flaming idiot would be a personal attack. Do you get the difference?
