A physician and former president of the National Right to Life Committee, Willke was an important surrogate for Romneys 2008 presidential bid. Willke is the oft-cited source of the theory that rape-related pregnancies are rare. The theory is sometimes used by antiabortion advocates to argue that abortion laws should not contain exceptions for pregnancies that result from rape or incest.
Willke believes that trauma caused by violent rape causes a womans reproductive system to shut down. He presents this belief as fact in educational materials, including a book about abortion and a website called abortionfacts.com. Willkes views and his role in promoting a theory that has been widely rejected in modern medicine appear not to have concerned Romney in 2007, when he touted Willkes endorsement.

Obama was sitting in Wright’s church in 2007. Please.
So because he endorsed Romney, that means Romney agreed with everything he said or wrote?
so.
Hey, just remember, Akin’s comment’s won’t have ANY effect on the GOP outside the state of Missouri. :)
/sarc off.
A lot of crap was.
Girls “wanted it” and “rape doesn't happen to boys” and “after a while they just get over it” and “Children won't even remember”.
Akin is a grown man though. He should know better by now.
He couldn't trouble himself to read news and statistics on crime every now and then?
I slammed him early.
Yeah, I am aware of how he got the notion, but that does not excuse it.
They won’t. In November you can apologize to those saying so.
He could have stated any of those reasons and been perfectly fine, but no, he had to go full retard instead.
So because he endorsed Romney, that means Romney agreed with everything he said or wrote?
Thats the way lefties will spin it. And they have a stranglehold on the media.
For the love of Pete!
When you cannot define yourself and stay on message your political opponent will only be too happy to do that for you. Abortion now seems to be the issue. How convenient for the democrats.
Huffington post is reporting that it dates back to nazi Germany according to gateway pundit website. I don’t even understand why any pro life group would even get into this kind of debate or study. Why can’t we just say that we don’t believe in abortion unless the life of mother is at stake. Period. End of story.
Here we go. Leg, meet rabid pitbull.
Kind of hard to believe Romney was clueless about his whacked out theories.
And that is what this is really about. It has nothing to do with the science, nothing to do with who wants to help women. All it has to do with is what the lying vultures in the media are going to do with this.
If this country’s existence now rests on what the lying vultures are going to do, this country is already dead meat.
I am so sick of the way things are in this country right now. This morning somebody posted a link to a scholarly article talking about the effect of trauma on implantation and the likelihood of miscarriage. Does it matter what the research says? Nobody is talking about what the research does or doesn’t say. That’s because truth doesn’t matter, and that disgusts me, regardless of which political direction that post-modern crap comes from.
I’m so disgusted. The fate of this country depends on which way the vultures might caw and peck. Pathetic.

And when McCaskill wins in November assuming Akin doesn’t drop-out, do they get to kiss my backside or what? Because right now there’s absolutely no support for Akin anywhere, not from within the Republican Party, nor anywhere else.
This whole thing is orchestrated. The commies have photos of akin banging a pony .
>> Damn. The hits just keep on coming,,,and this is only the beginning.
It’s only day 2. But this too will go away not before long.
I’m not usually one to go for conspiracy theories but I have a growing suspicion that the Dems are holding something over Akin’s head and preventing him from stepping down. His entire reasoning for staying in sounded so discombobulated and logically unsound, that it could very well be that he is getting blackmailed with something.
"The presumptive Republican Todd Akin presidential nominee dropped by Todd Akin the Houstonian for lunch on Todd Akin Tuesday and departed Todd Akin less than an hour later Todd Akin with about $6 million Todd Akin in his campaign money bags.
On a fundraising Todd Akin swing through Texas before Todd Akin the start of the Todd Akin Republican National Convention next Todd Akin week, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney Todd Akin told a luncheon gathering Todd Akin of about Todd Akin 125 people that his No. 1 Todd Akin priority as president Todd Akin would be "to take full advantage of Todd Akin our energy resources."
Romney assured his Todd Akin listeners at the high-dollar fundraiser Todd Akin, that he tells Todd Akin Ohio audiences the same Todd Akin thing he tells Texas audiences Todd Akin about the importance Todd Akin of energy. He also said Todd Akin he would be introducing Todd Akin a comprehensive energy Todd Akin plan during a visit Todd Akin to New Mexico Todd Akin next week.

"The resources Todd Akin being raised here Todd Akin today will help us take Todd Akin you over the top," he Todd Akin said."
So...now will all the PhonyCon Pro-Aborts call for Romney to step down?
Come on Hannity, Levin, and all the other PhonyCons....Romney is linked to the Doctor that made Rep Akin make the “legitimate rape” comment.
If all the people who are calling for Akin to step down, and do not call for Romney to step down...are nothing but Liberal PhonyCon Pro-Aborts.
Wow, you pro-Akin drones are so cute with your nicknames.
“Yellow bellied RINO’s”
“bed-wetters”
“cowards”
Now we have “PhonyCon Pro-Aborts”.
So cute.
Yeah, they'll let up on Palin after a week or so of bashing after she's announced as the VP candidate...
Pure Alinsky.
So if Romney is responsible for any statement of whomever gave him a past endorsement, wouldn’t that make Obama even more responsible for anything Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko or George Soros ever said or did?
A shark feeding frenzy has nothing on the liberal media, they’re going to desperately try and get Akin to create new gaffe’s, saying something equally dumb or dumber. When they smell blood, they attack with a viciousness that is unparalleled in nature. Even a tiger has more respect for its victims.
Here we go. Leg, meet rabid pitbull.
Yup. Look how long the media kept on with the tax thing. Day after day, month after month. Now they have Aikin. The only way the media lets go of this is if something even juicier comes along.
I wasn’t arguing about McCaskill winning. I’m arguing about the influence of this outside of Missouri. People are freaking out when this will have ZERO play outside of Missouri.
Come on Hannity, Levin, and all the other PhonyCons....Romney is linked to the Doctor that made Rep Akin make the legitimate rape comment.
If all the people who are calling for Akin to step down, and do not call for Romney to step down...are nothing but Liberal PhonyCon Pro-Aborts.
Right you are. Romney had to lie to win the primary, saying he is completely pro-life, that was until yesterday when he said he is for abortion for rape and incest. Innocent babies should be brutally murdered for the sins of their fathers, right? And don't forget he thinks gays should be able to adopt innocent children. Why did anyone believe anything he said.
Some people around here would go along with the gop and romney if they said chidlren should be taught about homosexuality at age 5. Oh wait, Romney did mandate that in his state. The gop and romney are making it clear that conservatives should get in the back of the bus. I have a better idea. How about we find a brave new party?
You go girl
this forum is a bunch of sissies...they stand for not much
ALWAYS allow their enemy to define the battle for them
Did Romney ask him to resign for the good of the country???
The doctor, and Rep Akin, are 100% correct! Pregnancy by rape is so rare that it can’t be explained other than to attribute it to the woman’s body’s rejection of the rapist. To believe anything else is to be a pawn of the leftist media.
If only that were proven so! Unfortunately he's just a out of touch moronic man who thinks he's above everyone else on some kind of providential crusade in destined to move up to a Senator's pay grade.
Ridiculous. At that level, all Romney's campaign probably knew about this quack was he was a former head of NRLC and they could "check off" a major pro-life endorsement.
You are far off the mark about those of us calling Akin to step down from Sarah Palin to Mark Levin to John Ashcroft to Ron Johnson to Paul Ryan and on and on down to through countless freepers including me.
Your post looks suspiciously like a "PhonyCon" to me; why am I'm not surprised you've been here just two months?
How do you get pregnant without ovulation when, by definition ovulation means a mature egg was released from an ovary, traveled down the fallopian tube and is waiting to be fertilized?
To avoid talk of deviance, I won't even ask where you think sperm can be deposited to cause pregnancy.
Because very simply sometimes the act of intercourse can cause ovulation. Moreover one could have already ovulated and the egg has not yet been shed. You obviously need to tke a course in reproductive science
>> ALWAYS allow their enemy to define the battle for them
And Talk Radio took the bait as well.
It doesn’t matter how many times they hit us. Romney is going to promote his Mormonism at the convention. Unless Hurricane Issac stops it, Romney is going to sink his own ship. Obama is a shew in.
Of course it does....IF...Romney has ever held any political opponent responsible for words or deeds of supporters or sources
Santorum and Gingrich come to mind.
I have one question only...since you seem to support the ‘no exception’ rule when it comes to abortion, what do you tell a woman with a tubal pregnancy?
Rape related pregnancies are 1% of abortions. That’s rare. That figure comes from the Alan Guttmacher Institute. A wholly owned subsidiary of Planned Parenthood.
No, they are very rare.
Are there accurate numbers?
The Justice Dept., from 1973 to 1987, surveyed 49,000 households annually, asking questions on violence and criminal acts. The results of those reported were:
1973 completed rapes 95,934
1987 completed rapes 82,505
The study stated that only 53% were reported to police. Accordingly, the total numbers were: 1973 181,016 ; 1987 155,667
[The Washington Times, Jan. 14, 1991, A-5]
A more recent Justice Dept. report, using a study designed differently with more direct questions, returned a result of 170,000 completed rapes plus 140,000 attempted rapes.
Nat. Crime Victim Report, [US Justice Dept. Aug. 95, R. Bachman]
And how many pregnancies result?
About 1 or 2 for each 1000. Using the 170,000 figure, this translates into an overall total of 170 to 340 assault rape pregnancies a year in the entire United States.
Only one or two out of 1000? Please explain.
There are about 100 million women in the United States old enough to be at risk for assault rape. Lets use a figure of 200,000 forcible rapes every year. The studies available agree that there are no more than two pregnancies per 1,000 assault rapes.
So much for the numbers. Lets look at it from another angle and see if that figure makes sense.
- Of these 200,000 women who were raped, one-third were either too old or too young to get pregnant. That leaves 133,000 at risk of pregnancy.
- A woman is capable of being fertilized only three days out of her 30-day month. So divide 133,000 by 10, and 13,300 women remain.
- One-fourth of all women in the United States of child-bearing age have been sterilized. That drops the figure to 10,000.
- Only half of the assailants penetrate her body and/or deposit sperm. Cut it in half again. We are own to 5,000.
- Fifteen percent of men are sterile; that drops the figure to 4,250. Fifteen percent of non-surgically sterilized women are naturally sterile. That reduces the number to 3,600.
- Another 15% are on the pill and/or are already pregnant. Now the figure is 3,070. Now factor in something that all adults know. It takes from five to ten months for an average couple to achieve a pregnancy. Using the smaller figure, to be conservative, divide the 3,000 figure by 5, and the number drops to about 600.
In a healthy, peaceful marriage, the miscarriage rate ranges up to about 15%. In this case, we have incredible emotional trauma. Her body is upset. Even if she conceives, the miscarriage rate is higher than in a more normal pregnancy. If she loses 20% of 600, there are 450 left. Finally, we must factor in one of the most important reasons why a rape victim rarely gets pregnant, and that is psychic trauma. Every woman is aware that stress and emotional factors can alter her menstrual cycle. To get pregnant and stay pregnant, a womans body must produce a very sophisticated mix of hormones. Hormone production is controlled by a part of the brain which is easily influenced by emotions. Theres no greater emotional trauma that can be experienced by a woman than an assault rape. This can radically upset her possibility of ovulation, fertilization, implantation and even nurturing of a pregnancy. So what further percentage reduction in pregnancy will this cause? No one really knows, but this factor certainly cuts the last figure by at least 50%, and probably more, leaving a final figure of 225 women pregnant each year, a number that closely matches the 200 found in clinical studies.
Ummm.... you mean similar to the way Obama's "You didn't build your business!" gaffe totally disappeared from the political radar in a few days?
Akin’s remarks were not malicious — bizarre, but certainly not Marxist.
So it was a set up by Willard to get rid of Conservative opposition in the Senate
