Democrats Spent $1.5 Mil to Help Akin Win GOP Primary
Washington Examiner ^

Call it a wise investment in light of his recent comments: Democrats wanted Missouri Republican congressman Todd Akin to win his state’s hotly contested Senate GOP primary because they believed he gave incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill her best shot at retaining her seat. As the Washington Post reported earlier this month:

There’s a reason why Democrats spent over $1.5 million trying to help Akin win his three-way primary. He was the most conservative candidate in the field — and the most unpredictable one. He shook up his campaign staff late last year. He recently released a head-scratching and jumbled campaign ad. And Democrats have already launched a microsite highlighting his controversial statements that won’t play well with moderates. (“America has got the equivalent of the stage III cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no business tampering in,” Akin once said.)

Here’s how the Democrats did it, running ads in the GOP primary that were intended to boost his appeal among the most conservative primary voters:

Makes you wonder if he is a plant. Anyone who doubts that planting candidates in races is a recurrent democrat strategy is being naive, IMHO. I’m not saying this is what has happened in this instance, but this should always be a consideration.

That’s how Reid did it in Nevada, selected who he wanted to run against.

The democrats are evil, but they are not stupid. We have two choices, stupid or evil. I am with stupid.

I agree that this should be a consideration. How could he not know the widespread controversy this comment would draw and pull attention away from the Newsweek article?

Well obviously the only thing we can do is let the GOP choose our candidates for us.

Apparently they paid the voters to vote for him too.

I read about this after the primaries and questioned here if he was the right man. I was assured by several people that he was the best and would steamroller the Demoncrat.

Well, someone is going to get steamrollered.

Agree.

And even if the comment wasn't deliberate, he must realize by now that only Biden, et al are allowed to sidestep gaffes.

No, they just paid for the ads to brainwash the voters.

Most of his defenders are some social conservatives who are happy that social issues become the main issue in this year election. They want to use Akin’s incident to force every GOP candidate to talk more about abortion, etc., in their campaign.

George Soros just bought a decent interest in Man United. (Now I have additional reasons to cheer against them).

He probably decided he could use some fun throwing money into the middle of in the Mo Senate race as well. It deflects attention away from US economic issues (including Obama supporting Petrobas’ oil drilling while squashing our own).

I’m thinking BS on this Dems spending 1.5 million FOR Akin. I watched the ONE ad the article references and I must say, It doesn’t sound like an ANTI Akin ad to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYYBGa3o8Xs&feature=player_embedded#%21

Absurd. Akin is more conservative than Mitt Romney. He supports and voted for gun rights; he voted for the Ryan Budget; he fought Mel Carnahan in 95 on state funding of abortion; he voted against the 93 tax increase and education spending increase; he has a 96% rating from the American Conservative Union.
As the media attacks I remember Fox News rallying around Juan Williams when he got fired from PBS for his PC comments and hiring Imus when Imus made his nappy headed Ho’s remark.
Akin has a degree in Theology and yes, he is a good man. He made a inane remark and if he stays in..he has my vote. If he drops out I will vote for the candidate that replaces him unless it is a rino. BTW..Romney is the biggest rino of all but many are sucking up and supporting him. He is far to the left of Akin and that is a fact.
