I suspect at least one goal of these large purchases is to put a dent in the supply of ammunition to citizens. (The FDA has put manufacturing limits on many types of medication causing significant shortages all across the country.) Obama could not get away with an executive order severely limiting the manufacturing and distribution of ammunition because it would be too obvious. There would be an uproar. What’s his alternative? Use the guise of national security and preparation for civil unrest. Buy a significant amount of ammo affecting the supply, causing shortages, raising prices, etc. If he can’t overrule the 2nd amendment, he can make it difficult and expensive to get ammunition. The General is right. Something smells.
Great trick except they are still out numbered.
Commercially there are about 6 Billion rounds manufactured in the US. This contract only represents a buy over 5 years so they are only affecting 0.03% of the market.
Not enough.
Oh, and there are another 1 billion rounds reloaded in the US each year so again, they don’t have the numbers.
