Source: Rep Todd Akin to hold a prayer vigil, decide his Senate race future tonight.
Agreed.
The statement he made was technically correct, but an incredibly stupid choice of words. He won't recover from it this election cycle and needs to get it off the front pages.
It’d be better if he held a wake.
And then he turns around and walks away from the cameras.
I really don’t care if he has a vigil or does a rain dance or throws back a six pack, whatever his process is, the answer needs to be the same. “I’m re-signing and leaving the election” and it needs to be before 5 PM tomorrow.
The "prayer vigil" thing is a way for him to say, "I prayed and reflected and came to this decision on my own yada yada"Orrr, there's the chance he's really praying about this. Not everyone is so "political." If it was Huckabee, Santorum, or Jindal, I'd say they were truly praying. I don't know if Akin is in their same league, faith-wise, but I know for sure (based on his history) Romney is not. :)
Akin’s Big Money Donors, the NRSC, and CrossRoads, are singing and old Eagles song. “I’m already gone....”
He’s done.
Yes, Mr. Akin is really praying and not just giving LIP service. thank you
How would you know what is in a person’s soul anyway?
And here’s the prayer he needs to say:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Please see post #13.
Him coming out and saying “The Lord wants me to stay in the race” will make this situation about 1000% worse than it is now. The libs will run with this 24/7 all the way to November.
So if Mr. Akin came out and said that the Devil made it say it would make the Dems love him?
Oh for F’s sake!
This guy is looney tooons.
Yes, sad to say but it is best for him to step aside.
Since most libs don’t believe in the existence of evil, that’s unlikely.
So he has to prove to us once again that he is pious?
Just go away Akin.
If you want to pray, pray.
There is no need to make the church a campaign backdrop.
Seems your tagline fits perfectly!
Why do we always select the dumb ones!!
I hope you are right. We have to win the presidency AND the Senate to have a prayer of defeating Obamacare, and if we don’t, America is finished.
The Dems chunked Toricelli in NJ for Lautenburg and won anyway, but then again NJ is one of those states where a huge chunk of the population would vote for a 3 legged, 1 eyed dog, just because it was a Democrat.
Krauthammer just called Akin “unbelievably stupid” and called for him to stand down.
I pray that he drops out.
I wouldn’t presume to know what’s in his soul. That’s irrelevant anyway. He’s running for Senator, not Pastor. It’s his judgment that’s in question, not his piety.
I really hope you’re right.
“Krauthammer just called Akin unbelievably stupid and called for him to stand down.”
****
The right call by the wrong person. Krauthammer voted for Obama in 2008. Hardly the person to call anyone else “unbelievably stupid.”
How would you know what is in a persons soul anyway?I suppose you can tell by what they stand up for. For instance, I like this quote from Bobby Jindal:
In my view there is an easy, universal barometer we can use to evaluate all cultures: how do they treat their most vulnerable members...those whom Jesus so aptly referred to as 'the least of these'? I would go so far as to say that a society that does not...defend the defenseless, [protect] all human life, is really not a civilized society after all. As for all my pro-choice friends out there, we can agree to disagree...and keep on arguing (until I win). --Bobby Jindal, from Leadership and Crisis
The Republicans Crossroads PAC just announced that they have withdrawn 5 million in proposed spending from the Akin campaign thus making Claire McCaskill’s campaign the biggest single entity in spending funds to support his candidacy in the primary.McCaskill can kiss that 2 million goodby in her attempts to position a dummy candidate against her.
Apparently the state of his health too, since he has “hoof in mouth disease”.
Of course he’s going to step down. He’s a Republican.
I wonder if he switches parties after this.
Demand any national funding of his campaign be repaid within 10 days.... that should help Todd Atkin see the light....
Get up on the wrong side of the bed today?
Not at all.
A candle light vigil? SERIALLY? Please Louise. Will he be passin' round the basket?
I do hope he just decides to withdraw. This is a distraction that is not needed at all right now...
It's not the worst place to be, going in front of one's Creator saying, "Lord, I attempted to stand up for the most vulnerable of your children and made a dreadful hash of it". It's unfortunate, but no serious person believes the incident reflects negatively on Akin in any way except his commmunication or political skill.
