Crossroads GPS has removed its Senate race ads from the Missouri airwaves in the wake of controversial comments made by Republican nominee and U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Todd Akin.
Politico first reported that Crossroads would pull its ads. The news comes the day after Akin, speaking about his position on abortion in a television interview, claimed that abortion in cases of rape was rarely an issue because if its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
The advocacy group had spent millions of dollars on ads in the state to help oust the incumbent, Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents this cycle. The group made a new buy just last week, CNN reported.

And does anybody know Missouri law on replacing a candidate that drops out?
If I’m not mistaken, tomorrow is the deadline. If he’s going to drop out, he better do so soon.
A GOP nominating committee chooses the replacement. Presumably they would choose the man who came in second in the primary, Jon Brunner.
I’m thinking in this case, getting a woman on the ballot would be a much better option. Having Steelman would cut off several avenues of attack from McCaskill.
Wow, how does he get this far with a stupid idea like that in his head?
This guy never discussed his views on abortion with his campaign staff?
You are absolutely correct, but there can’t be an intra-party squabble over this. Brunner came in second and he can beat McCaskill. Passing him and his supporters over for the third place finisher could cause a lot of bad blood and even result in legal challenges.
Too bad for Steelman. She had her chance - maybe next time. This one should go to Brunner.
NONSENSE. No one knows how many votes Steelman might have gained had Akin not had such a large lead going into the primary. Just schedule a new runoff 2 weeks from tomorrow. Let the voters decide, not some stupid committee.
I have thought for years that men just didn’t ‘get it’ where rape was concerned.
This just helps my position.
Where has this guy been living for the past 40 ++ years??
