U.S. Senator John Cornyn, Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, today made the following statement regarding Congressman Todd Akin:
Congressman Akins statements were wrong, offensive, and indefensible. I recognize that this is a difficult time for him, but over the next twenty-four hours, Congressman Akin should carefully consider what is best for him, his family, the Republican Party, and the values that he cares about and has fought for throughout his career in public service.
Not too hard to read between those lines, huh? Akin hasnt left yet; if Cornyn were completely behind that stance, he wouldnt be calling for additional consideration in the next twenty-four hours.

I’m glad to see this because the senate leadership needs to be doing everything out front and behind the scenes to get this Akin guy gone TODAY. Thank you Senator Cornyn.
Good.
I think it will be a full blown assault now throughout the day. It was Ron Johnson and Scott Brown, now Cornyn.
He has to step aside. Of course, the one person pushing the hardest for him is.... Claire McCaskill.
Rove announced he’s pulling PAC out of MO race.
It’s over.
After this, his only honorable option is political hara kiri.
What are the rules? Does Steelman get it if he pulls out right now?
This guy is a disaster and should get out. He is too stupid and ignorant to be a Senator. He would give Patty Murray competition.
Steelman was 3rd.
Steelman maybe 3rd, but she is a woman and given the circumstances, we better go with the woman.
My guess is that the party (chairman, or state central committee) gets to pick the replacement.
They would not be bound by the primary results, where Steelman came in third.
She'd be the smartest pick right now especially with the whole "war on women" theme going on.
Right, Steelman needs to be the nominee. She is attractive and would hit hard against the “war on women” meme the Dems have going.
It does seem as if the Dems selected Akin to run against by crossing over to vote for him in the Republican primary (McCaskill running unopposed in hers). He is proving an excellent investment for their side. Time to pull a reverse Toricelli. Only question is, who’s the Missouri Republican Lautenberg gonna be?
Oh please.. There’s absolutely no reason the 2nd place guy (name escapes me) can’t win here.
Todd Akin REP 217,410 36.0%Jerry Beck REP 9,789 1.6% Sarah Steelman REP 176,129 29.2% John G. Brunner REP 180,788 30.0% Mark Memoly REP 3,199 0.5% Mark Patrick Lodes REP 2,280 0.4% Robert (Bob) Poole REP 6,096 1.0% Hector Maldonado REP 7,409 1.2% Party Total 603,100
Steelman only came in 0.8% behind Brunner @ #2.
See Post 16.
I just heard a little blurb from her on the last radio station news break. She was down right indignant that the Republican party would try to force him off the ticket, since he won the primary.
This from the party that sued to get their party nominee in Kentucky or Tennessee off the ticket just last week, because he is too conservate to be a Democrat, from their point of veiw.
I dont care who they replace Akin with, just replace him already! I know what he meant to say but he came across as idiotic and obviously couldn’t pass a 5th grade biology exam. If he can’t put an intelligent sentence together he stands no chance anyway. No wonder McCaskill wanted him to win so badly, she saw it, why didn’t others see it
Argus-that was good. Steel man DID finish 3rd. Would that be fair to the guy that finished second? Right now we can only hope that she(the hottie)gets the nod and POINTS OUT how the RATS influenced the flawed process. Still it is a bad reflection on the (dumb) GOP voter.
