Ping. :(
RIP.
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell’st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more, death, thou shalt die.

RIP Joe, a great artist and from what I understand, a great teacher. Loved his work on Sgt. Rock and as I recall he did Enemy Ace and sometimes the Haunted Tank among others. Loved his Viking Prince as well. He’ll be missed.
Damn. Almost went to his school, but mother wouldn’t let me move that far away.
Rest in Peace, Joe.
And here is a 100,000 round... salute to ya, Joe!
I met Mr. Kubert at a comic book convention some years ago. My 4-year old daughter was in costume and got away from me in the crowd by ducking into one of the booths. It took a second or two to fight my way over to her. In that time, this smiling grandfatherly gentleman started talking to her, asking if she was an elf, etc. He asked me and I let her sit on his lap as he talked to her for a few minutes about kid things. You could just tell that this was a man that naturally loved children and my daughter just loved him back.
When they were done, I told my daughter, “Say ‘thank you’ to Mr...?”
“Joe”
“Thank you Joe, bye”
