QUEENS, NY (PIX11) Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City may be taking a national stand against gun violence--but he apparently can't stand local, television reporters who challenge him on a city policy involving NYPD "shell casings."
The Mayor got testy with yours truly--Mary Murphy--when I questioned him Monday about the June sale of 28-thousand pounds of spent, shell casings from the NYPD's firing range in the Bronx .to an ammunition dealer in Georgia.
Bloomberg explained that competitive bidding allows anyone to buy scrap metal--and he suspects "some bullet manufacturer probably bought some to say, 'Gotcha'". The mayor has angered many gun dealers, especially in the South, with his campaigns to tighten the laws that make it so easy to buy weapons in certain states.
When PIX 11 asked Mayor Bloomberg if the city would change its policy, so ammunition dealers could not get access to NYPD shell casings, he started to maintain that the city is selling scrap metal, not bullets, and city officials have to be "stewards of the public's money." When I tried to interject, asking if the wrong message is being sent, the mayor told me that if I didn't let him finish the answer, I should "stand in the back of the room" at his next press availability. He then repeated his argument, "These are not bullets. This is scrap metal," and accused reporters of being fed information by a gun dealer "that gives you a story to rile up everybody."

“the laws that make it so easy to buy weapons in certain states.”
Laws are restrictions on people. They default position is that whatever is not forbidden is allowed.
To claim that laws that are not as strict as the reporter wants “make it so easy to buy weapons” is an inversion of reality.
I suppose Bloomberg eventually tires of being made to look like an unthinking fool — even when he does it to himself.
LOL
He said he “gave her the courtesy” of not interrupting, but he didn’t. He interrupted her at least once, maybe twice.
His views on the Second Amendment stem from his distorted view of this country’s founding. “Hizhonor” spoke in a U.S. history documentary series âThe Story of Us,â in a segment on the American Revolution. His take on the famous Boston massacre engraving by Paul Revere: “Give me a picture, and I’ll give you a war.” In his painfully shallow view, it wasn’t about liberty, it was simply the result of artful propaganda. May his fortunes decline, and his barking mother be struck be the next car she pursues.
How stupid. Of course the city should sell brass to the highest bidder. Hizhonor is right about that, but you know what they say about even broken clocks being right twice a day . . .
BTW, I seem to recall seeing some retired NYPD handguns on the surplus market. Seems like J&G guns had some NYPD revolvers a couple of years ago. Also, AIM Surplus had some Kahr semi-autos that I THOUGHT came from NYPD (I could be wrong about that, though).
Pull a page from Alinsky...make your opponents play by their own rules.
The media did it for us in this case.
It is hard to believe, but there was a time when New York City was a part of America that would seem almost normal today. It wasn't always a Cuckoo's Nest and they didn't elect arrogant prigs like Michael Bloomberg, the "Nurse Ratched" of America's mayors.
NY City in saner days:

How does one like munchkin Bloomberg appear to be so stupid but becomes so rich?
He's not stupid, just selfish and uncaring. There's no need for private citizens to own guns. If you want to be safe, just move to a wealthy area and hire some bodyguards. It works for Bloomberg.
To tell the truth, I couldn't take my eyes off the other munchkin standing next to Bloomberg. He looks like a cartoon character.
Anyone know who that guy is?
Perhaps a member from the lollipop guild?
On the height issue, Rodney Dangerfield, as Thornton Mellon, famously said "If you want to look thin, hang out with fat people!"
Perhaps Bloomberg is using a variation on this approach for the vertically challenged.
“-—stand in the back of the room——”???
Oh — I forgot! This is Nanny Bloomberg talking.
NYC’s infamous gun ban began as the “Sullivan Act”, an effort to appease citizens tired of Tammany Hall criminal Sullivan’s bully gangs rampages.
Every time Blooming-Idiot-Berg supports it, he supports Tammany Hall and Organized Crime over the interest of the citizens.
The Sullivan Act was never about stopping crime, only about making sure the Tammany Hall criminals had an advantage over other gangs as it was selectively enforced.
To this day the well connected, including mobsters, still have no problem getting permits, but they are nearly impossible for the average citizen.
The next SCOTUS suit needs to sweep away the feculent “Sullivan Act” as an unconstitutional infringement of Second Amendment rights.
Preventing a victim getting “Standing” to overturn it is why so many recent cases of unintentional “Possession” charges have been dropped or reduced.
I liked seeing the shootout in the commercial for the “Hatfields & McCoys”, played right before Bloomberg’s hissy fit. LOL
And another gun store, located right next to a billiard parlor! Imagine THAT in NY today!;)
Eventually, someone’s going to have to inform Michael Bloomberg that there is no job title “Mayor of the Entire United States.”
Clearly, he is so busy attempting to run the affairs of every town and city in the country that he has insufficient time for New York.
Dare one suggest the word ‘megalomania’?
