Humm
ME TOO!
Must be something—in the water
Not enough and too many to keep track of.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you view such things, the only guns on my boat that day were those not registered. Glad this accident happened before I went to all the trouble of registering them.
LOL!
If one government agent is sent to each home then 100+ million jackbooted thugs die in one night!
Easy enough to find out now.
BWAAAHAAHAAHAAHAAAAA!
Someone has failed at cost-per-unit calculations.
That's all I got to say about that.
Wonderful chart.
Add at least another 15 million for 2010, 2011, and 2012.
That would bring the total NICS checks to over 125 million since it was instituted in 1998. But, the people who believe they can lie their way out of reality insist that the number of gun owners in the country is dropping.
Only a few people (family) actually know how many I have. When asked, I usually respond that I have enough to knock off a small 3rd World country, like Russia!
“If we told them, it would spoil the surprise.”
I like the way you think.
Props to DTogo, I just posted the graphic of his link.
Irony that it comes from the Ammoland site.
Guess a lot of this depends on what your definition of “gun” is:
This is my rifle, this is my gun.
This is for fighting, this is for fun...!

The number from that chart is a flawed number. A buyer at a gun shop or an auction can buy unlimited long guns and the #4473 form is only counted as 1 background check. And a 4473 doesn’t cover black powder firearms.
I know a lot of people, myself included, who never buy a gun from a dealer or event that requires a background check or other government form. Rather, they buy guns from other gun owners.
Private sales do not need the eyes of the nanny state peering over their shoulders.
My state is not concerned with registering peoples’ firearms, and we’d vote out anyone suggesting it in a heartbeat. It is simply not going to happen. If my doctor ever asks any of his patients if they own guns, it would be only to see if he could make a trade!
I will never admit to either owning or not owning guns.
My weakness might be me braggin’ on a particularly fine piece, and the boom noises occasionally coming from my back forty.
Must be contagious! I had the same thing happen to my guns.
If one were to be a CCW, then it would be wise to have 2 dedicated to that purpose, and here’s why: the cops will want the one (hopefully never) used in an act of self-defense - which you will never see again. If you have 2, then you can go on.
If one were the ‘home defense’ type, again 2 for the same reason.
If that liberal-dopehead-dreamy day of confiscation creeps up, remember .... surrender by utilization of ammunition, first.
I gave all mine to the homeless so they could shoot rats.
True, but buying used guns does not add to the overall stock, and NICS checks are also done for CCW licenses.
My best guess is that we are at about 320 million firearms in the U.S. now. Perhaps a range of 280 to 340 million would be a better way to say it.
