Egypt denied on Tuesday evening the reports that President Mohammed Morsi had sent a letter to Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres.
Dr. Yasser Ali, Morsis official spokesman, denied the reports which appeared in the Israeli press and which said that Morsi thanked the Israeli president for his Ramadan greetings and said he is looking forward to Egypt helping to get the peace process back to its right track.
However, according to a report on the website of the Egyptian daily Al-Ahram, Ali described these reports as completely incorrect and stressed that Morsi did not send any letter to Peres.
Another report in Al-Ahram said that the office of the president filed lawsuits against two media outlets for allegedly publishing inaccurate information about Morsi.
While Ali declined to divulge the names of the two media outlets in question, he said, There is such a thing as freedom of expression, but this also requires accuracy in the dissemination of information.
This is not the first time that Morsi has threatened to sue media outlets. Earlier this month Morsis spokesman said the new president plans to take legal action against the Iranian Fars news agency for fabricating an interview with him.
During the interview, Morsi supposedly said he will "reconsider the Camp David Accord" with Israel and that he wants closer ties with Tehran to create a balance in the Middle East. Morsi denied...
