Wisconsin state Dem quits caucus, threatens to undermine recall gains

A Wisconsin state lawmaker this week quit the Democratic caucus in an apparent ideological huff and might even become an independent, threatening the hard-fought chamber majority the party achieved out of the raucous recall elections.

State Sen. Tim Cullen quit the caucus Tuesday, saying he left because Majority Leader Mark Miller offered him only a “minimal” committee chairmanship. He said he would decide within a few weeks whether to become an independent.

In an email to supporters, Cullen said Miller’s take-it-or-leave-it offer “made clear to me that (he) has no time for my independent ideas and my support of bipartisan solutions to the state’s problems.”

This guy wants bipartisan work to fix Wisconsin. He also did not get the committees that he wanted.

There may be a lesson here -- if Tea Party/Tea Party Express (etc) get elected and get dumped on Republicans, maybe they should go independent like this fellow and work to fix problems with the country.

I don't know if this fellow honestly wants to fix problems in Wisconsin, just wants more power in the Senate. Time will show that.

Wisconsin probably is a mess after the recall nonsense, and I have lots of reports of bad blood (people no longer talking because one might Republican and the other Democrat...)

To put it bluntly, if he really wants to solve Wisconsin’s problems—and the nation’s— he should quit the Democrime Party.

The Democrats should have thought through their situation first before dumping on this guy.

Romney sure never thought about what would happen in Virginia if he were seen to have accepted favoritism in the run up to the primary ~ and now he's in the race for his life against a man he never heard of ~ Virgil Goode!

This sort of stupidity is bi-partisan I guess.

I give him the benefit of doubt, and would like to buy him a beer ;-) Just for pissing in Mark Miller’s Post Toasties, if nothing else. Miller is the ultimate liberal jag....

On the other hand, since the WI Senate isn’t going to even meet until after the Nov. elections, this (just like the recall win) doesn’t mean much.

If Romney chooses McDonnell for VP, all the Virgil Goode nonsense goes away.

I’d say he has the Dems, who lust for the majority, by the short hairs. They’ll cave and give him anything he wants just to get the reins of power.

That is silly.
The legislature won't be back in session util after the next election during which half of the senators are up for re-election..

Nothing worse to Democrats than a Democrat that thinks independently.
