Well, if I truly believed that my own team’s fans (well, some of them) were using a coded racial slur, I might calmly point it out in stoic protest, once or twice.
But I wouldn’t dwell on it. There are going to be a few idiots in any group, including great groups.
I’ll bet that, IF this is true, most of the “racist” tweeters aren’t even truly racist. They just want to get a rise out of someone. I’m not against fat people, but if I were trying to heckle someone like Prince Fielder, I just might mention his weight. Similarly, someone who isn’t really racist may suspect that this guy is touchy about racial insults — and thus, this guy gets THOSE insults.
I guess Ward’s publicist doesn’t realize that this race card crap doesn’t work any more......go tell someone who actually cares.

This is one reason, I no longer associate with blacks socially. You have to be sooooo careful with what you say. Anything and everything can deemed a racial slur.
Take some guys who are socially derelict to begin with and pour eight or nine beers in ‘em during a ballgame and you’re liable to hear just about anything.
Mr. Crawford elected a career in professional baseball and he no doubt knows this. Consider the source and don’t lower yourself to responding.
Somebody should try calling him a “Canadian”.
Perhaps he should have been called Labor Day, Memorial Day, MLK Day, Presidents' Day or Columbus Day instead.
All that being said, Crawford seems to be playing like he has a terrific case of the Friday F***-its. Just coasting by, watching the clock, no extra effort.
And when your playing sucks big time, throw the blame somewhere else to distract attention, SQUIRREL!, and make a sympathy play.
There was a baseball free-agent years ago who was a very good ball player for the Twins.
His name was Lyman Bostock.
After signing a huge contract with the Angels, he had an absolutely dismal April. He was called everything in the book, and then some.
He just sucked it up and went to Gene Autry, the Angels owner, and tried to give his April salary back to the club.
No excuses. No blame flames. Just an "I suck and I'm not worth it."
