Ernest Borgnine, the beefy screen star known for blustery, often villainous roles, but who won the best-actor Oscar for playing against type as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95

Bummer-I loved the man.
He also voiced Mermaid Man in ‘SpongeBob Squarepants’
“Ya know Pike, I wouldn’t want it any other way either.”
RIP, Ernie!
IIRC, he was GOP; a double loss.
McHales navy anyone?
Oh no! I loved him!!
Recently watched a replay of an interview O’Reilly had with Borgnine about a year ago. Ernest looked great, was well spoken, and had a great sense of humor.
RIP.
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
His ten years of naval service, including serving aboard the destroyer USS Lamberton during WW2, helped bring a degree of realism to his character.
From Wiki
Borgnine joined the United States Navy in 1935, after graduation from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Connecticut. He was discharged in 1941, but re-enlisted when the United States entered World War II and served until 1945 (a total of ten years), reaching the rank of Gunner’s Mate 1st Class. He served aboard the destroyer USS Lamberton (DD-119). His military decorations included the Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
In 2004, Borgnine received the honorary rank of Chief Petty Officer from the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry D. Scottthe US Navy’s highest ranking enlisted sailor at the timefor Borgnine’s support of the Navy and naval families worldwide.
RIP, Sailor.
He was an amazing actor but more than that he was an amazing man.
Godspeed Ernie!
There was another thread that the moderator rightfully pulled where someone did a very tasteless thing by reserving praise if it turned out that Ernest might be a liberal. Obviously this person is not very aware of this great man’s view of the world and politics had nothing to do with it. He was guided by being the best human being he thought he could be by a standard that has since been lost to most in our society.
In the event that “Semperfi911” is reading this post, here is a clue of what he endured for just letting truth and grace guide his life. Get a clue and do just one minutes research before shooting from the lip again.

“Marty” is a favorite of mine. Just found it in the last few years.
RIP
Always loved him in McHale’s Navy
However, Borgnine was a national treasure and will be missed.
OReilly just replayed an interview with him over July 4th. I thought, wow, someone from the Hollywood golden age is still here.
Sad to see him go, but he seemed like he had a happy life.
May he rest in peace. Borgnine was an actor my dad liked...real, down to earth, no pretensions. And he was a conservative.
