CNN’s Candy Crowley Grills Obama Advisor Over Anti-Romney Attacks Rated False

On CNN’s State of the Union today, Candy Crowley grilled Obama campaign advisor and former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on a recent attack ad released hitting Mitt Romney for outsourcing. Crowley ran the ad, pointing out that The Washington Post rated it false (“four Pinocchios”), and challenged Gibbs to explain why this is still being used as a line of attack against Romney.

Crowley also cited a more recent ad where the Obama campaign cites a Washington Post article on the claim that Romney outsourced jobs when he was at Bain Capital. For its part, the Post did examine the validity of that particular claim, but because of the conflict of interest, they did not officially rate the veracity of the newer ad.

When Gibbs tried to argue the point, Crowley countered by saying that Romney was not in charge of Bain at the time of said outsourcing, and thus his ties to it are not as direct as the ad otherwise suggests. Gibbs continued to push the outsourcing line of attack, and even brought up the recent revelation that Romney keeps money in a Swiss bank account. Crowley asked if Gibbs was implying Romney’s offshore money was illegal. Gibbs answered with, “We don’t know!” He called on Romney to release all of his tax returns for the past few years.

Gibbs ... called on Romney to release all of his tax returns for the past few years.
Romney should agree to do it the day after obama releases all the documents he's hidden from public scrutiny.

Grudging respect for Candy Crowley, a dyed in the wool leftist, for even doing this. Not two weeks ago she was insisting to Rick Santorum that the GOP was not “moderate” because it wouldn’t give Democrats half of the leftist things the Democrats want.

Attacking Bain for outsourcing jobs is attacking the symptom rather than the problem itself. There is a reason why jobs are outsourced particularly when you are acquiring a troubled company that has been losing money and trying to turn it around. Having said that I read that the only jobs that were “outsourced” when Romney was there were the few that called for opening an Indian call center to service Indian customers. It was a new call center not one that was moved from the US offshore. There was little to no outsourcing when Romney was there.

We must keep in mind that CNN ratings are in the tank. I think, perhaps, they are getting the message from the American people — if you insist on supporting the D’s and continuously screwing the R’s, you will pay dearly in the ratings. As such, they are now, from time to time or intermittantly, putting the D’s on the hot seat. Looooooooooooooooooooonnnng overdue. Trying desparately to resuscitate the ratings in their favor

Even leftist extremists like CNN can see the writing on the wall when it's large enough and the color is as red as their ratings chart.

Obama does not care. The attack ads are working like a charm.

Three weeks ago, when the ads starting hitting heavy, Romney was on top of Obama in Gallup 48-44, and up on Obama in Rasmussen 48-43.

Today Obama is up 2 at 47-45 in Gallup. And tied in Rasmussen at 45-45.

All this happening (Obama’s upwards movement/Romney’s downslide) with bad May and June reports coming out, other horrible economic news (i.e. manufacturing, consumer confidence), and the ruling that Obamacare is a tax.

Attack ads work. And Romney has shown to be just another in a long line of Republican squish refusing to fight the Chicago thug head on. Obama gets to lie. And Romney cowers under ideas to tell the truth about Obama (e.g. Ayers, Wright, Rezko, transcripts, etc).

Anderson Cooper ((who takes it in the pooper) has done the same thing. It is amazing to watch the stunned faces on his Democratic guests when this happens.

Obama’s ad claims he’s “insourcing” jobs because he saved GM. But if you investigate behind the scenes, you find out that GM is manufacturing, marketing and selling more cars in China than in the US. Our taxpayer-funded bailout money has gone to enriching China and Chinese auto workers. So who’s outsourcing now? Romney should pound Obama with these facts from now until the election.

She “challenges” Gibbs twice and then lets him run a full length ad attacking Romney. I don’t see where she was helping Romney - she was giving Obama’s mouthpiece a free run to spew his lies.

Gibbs deflects and changes the subject.

But Gibbs knows the answer, which is: “Much of our base and many Independents don’t read the WaPo so they are unaware the ad is a lie. So we push it as hard as we can.”

It is my line of thinking that Romney’s gameplan is to start doing heavy advertisements after the convention. Obama is going through his money as fast as it comes in. So he might be building a slight lead now, but Romney will have more to spend down the line when it matters.
