UN wants 'billionaire tax' to help poor

AFP July 06, 2012 1:41AM

THE UN today called for a tax on billionaires to help raise more than $US400 billion ($389 billion) a year for poor countries.

An annual lump sum payment by the super-rich is one of a host of measures including a tax on carbon dioxide emissions, currency exchanges or financial transactions proposed in a new report that accuses wealthy nations of breaking promises to step up aid for the less fortunate.

The UN's annual World Economic and Social Survey also says it is critical to find new ways to help the world's poor as pledged cash fails to flow.

The report estimates that the number of people around the globe worth at least $US1 billion rose to 1226 in 2012.

These include an estimated 425 billionaires in the US, 315 in the Asia-Pacific region, 310 in Europe, 90 in other North and South American countries and 86 in Africa and the Middle East.

Together they own an estimated $US4.6 trillion dollars - or an average of $US3.75 billion per person, according to the report.

The UN estimates that a one per cent tax on their wealth would raise $US46 billion in 2012.

"Would this hurt them?" it questioned.

A nice-sounding bill called the “Global Poverty Act,” sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.

I agree. All that money that they are talking about will just go to the dictators of the poor countries. It’s not our job.

Perhaps not a tax. Perhaps a mere penalty.

If the UN ever gets taxing authority, it becomes the de facto world government.

That would be very, very bad.

It’s getting worse. The UN has outlived its utility.

What we have here is a vst number of third world countries that belong to the UN and are looking for a handout.

We need to hand them out of the United States and into one of their third world toilets.

We need to unload this load.

All the UN wants these days is to end the sovereignty of countries so they can feed off of the successful ones.

No, what the UNtil wants is to become a government and treat the US like the US wants to treated states.

I used to be a reasonably good poker player, and I'm betting my pennies that Barack Hussein Obama wants to be at the head of the United Nations when he finishes destroying America.

The UN is like getting a wood splinter. It hurts and if left alone sometimes becomes infected. In either case, it needs be removed.

I don’t care how much it costs, but it would be in our nation’s interest to take it and all those petty bureaucrates and place them in a place to voice their platitudes and issue their extortion notices. I would suggest the Atacama desert in Chile as the proper venue. I guarantee almost 100% of those pompous asses at the UN would not go: no restaurants, no prime residences and no bimbos to keep them happy. Hum, perhaps that would also be a good place for our government too.

So we’ve went from stealing...er...wealth redistribution for citizens to redistribution on a global scale. Poor nations want to use the UN to plunder “wealthy” nations, meaning us, Japan, and Europe, and we’re all just going to bend over and take it? This is a joke, right? If not, it should be. Here’s the truth: third world nations are crap for a reason. There’s very little reason to work hard, create, and build wealth for yourself and posterity if some petty government bureaucrat, aka thug, will simply kill you and take it.

Move the UN to Belgium.
There are plenty of socialist do-gooders ready to roll.

“”Would this hurt them?” it questioned.”

The better question is “Will it help them (the poor)” or will it take their independence, steal their souls, take their humanity in the name of a UN handout.

For a number of years, I thought that it was better to remain a member of the UN in order to keep them in check, sort of a “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer,” sort of thing. But that line is wearing thinner and thinner as times go on.

Actual freedom is a very unnatural phenomenon. Most countries in the UN are ruled by dictators, and the majority of the remainder by socialist governments. So why should I want to listen to anything they have to say? (I know. Rhetorical question.)

Freedom/Liberty require WORK. They require constant work and attention to detail. They require a continuous onslaught against ignorance and sloth. They require a tireless minority fighting against every person who wants to just give away his/her freedom to a benevolent dictator or government.

But as more people do that, just kowtowing to dictators (Obama) and revering them as royalty, we are farther away from Liberty than at any time since the turn of the 19th century.
