States may opt out of Medicaid expansion..
The Boston Globe ^ | June 30, 2012 | Brian MacQuarrie

The Supreme Court’s ruling that states cannot be penalized if they refuse to expand Medicaid under the federal health care overhaul has left an opening for legislators who have assailed the health care act as a crippling budget-buster.

Legislators in many states, from tiny New Hampshire to Texas, say they are inclined to resist the expansion of Medicaid that is intended to provide coverage for 17 million uninsured people.

Before the high court’s decision on Thursday, states that did not comply had been threatened with the loss of all federal Medicaid funds, which have covered an average of 57 percent of the cost of the program.

I'd be careful not to stir up Obama's base, in these battleground states, or at least wait to commit until after the November Election..

I believe the administration would welcome the controversy to help get his people motivated to vote this cycle..

I disagree. If the Republicans appear to be cowering the conservative base will stay home.

Instead of trying to be cute about it they should just do the right thing.

Florida and Louisiana have already stated their intentions, via statements from their governors.

Just wondering now, wouldn’t that decision by the states more clearly define which way the states are leaning in the general election coming in November ?

Frankly baring a disastrously wast-full federal spending requirements(which are sometimes the case) this is of little long term significance. The problem is Our people will be forced by lawless(boundless) washington to finance the socialist services of other states. That fact alone will tend to force compliance.

The Affordable Care Act is government control of healthcare funded by a tax

The Affordable Care Act is not a tax

a tax is the government collecting money

The Affordable Care Act does something else altogether

the Supreme Court is Idiocracy on parade

Red states will mostly opt out.

Blue states will tax you and penalize you for acts of resistance.

Pretty soon all blue adjoining states will have fences to keep the people leaving like the Berlin Wall.

I don’t see the problem here. They already go to the emergency room for treatment. Which will raise insurance rates on everyone else.

We get screwed one way or the other.

We are where we are because "Conservatives" have continued the failed "tactics" of appeasing and trying to not "upset" the Left.

The Left will find a way to make up "controversies" no matter what the Right does.

This lifeline thrown out by SC my be the death knell of the ABA. It is not the extra 10% that the Feds might have to pay for covering the working poor or preexisting conditions, but that forcing these folks upon private carriers will put insurance prices through the roof. No expanded Medicaid screws their numbers really bad.

“ABA” should be “ACA”.

And still illegals will be able to receive their medical services at emergency rooms at no cost and are immune under the act from paying the “fine.”

FYI — The editorial section of the Boston Sunday Globe was remarkably void of any commentary about the Supreme Court decision on Obummercare. Silence.

Much of the country is howling about Justice Roberts’ strange call, but not the Globe, which often reflects the prevailing opinion in the Progressive corner.

How very interesting.

Change "marijuana prohibition" to "Obamacare" and we have a winner...

"Just as the process of repealing national alcohol prohibition began with individual states repealing their own prohibition laws, so individual states must now take the initiative with respect to repealing marijuana prohibition laws."

We all complain about odongo, but it is really THIS GUY that needs to be tried for treason and an enemy of the state, found guilty, then taken out and hanged by the neck until dead. Without him, odongo would be total “empty suit” and completely lost in every direction he tried to take. Can you spell: PUPPET?

I had to go back to the Ginsberg dissent and it is still not there. Roberts' four buddies specifically set out in the dissent that their concurring opinion on the pernalytax issue that let Obmacare stand DID not concur as to the states opting out. They specifically state in their dissent that once the Obamacare passed muster, the Feds can do as they want - including withholding monies from states to force compliance.

This opt out “finding” being reported is bogus.

The republican Governors are just making sound good noises. The state provisions do not have to be implemented until 2014. They are banking on a new regime before then as well as banking on this “new” regime not doing the same thing as Obamba.

No expanded Medicaid screws their numbers really bad.

I *think* a major portion of the money for Obamacare was to be borne by the states - through expanding their medicaid for people in the program.

So, I think you're right, this would screw their numbers. Money will have to come from elsewhere.

Tell me why George Soros wanted Libya attacked illegally by the US Military.

Tell me why George Soros wanted Egypt’s government overthrown in order to put the Muslim Brotherhood in charge.

Tell me why George Soros wanted Obama to have a Muslim Brotherhood adviser in the White House.

Tell me why George Soros wants Syria’s government overthrown.

You can’t explain any of that.

What you can explain is that Hussein really is working with his Arab buddies in setting up the world for their Arab Armageddon.

The Arabs are using the liberals as USEFUL IDIOTS.
