Bank of America and my reaction thanks to input from FRs
Self

A few months I was made aware of BOA support for various political issues that I disagree with via Freeper info posted by others. (Thank You) -In particular their support of efforts to curtail my 2nd amendment rights. Due to my direct deposits and automatic outgoing payments, it took me a couple of months to get setup with another institution before I could close. I personally feel that Corporations should stay out of politics. All the officers of a corporation have a right to their opinions, including what they "think is best for me". I reserve the right to make my own decisions and pay the consequences for the mistakes "I" may make. Stay out of my life. BOA - do what is best for your "business" - stay out of our lives!! Below is the info I submitted to close account..Do you think I was wrong?

XXX: Hello! My name is XXX. Thank you for being a valued Bank of America customer.

XXX: May I please have your complete name as it appears on your account statement?

You: XXX: Thank you, Martin.

XXX: How may I assist you today?

You: I want to close this account and have the remaining balance sent to my home address..

XXX: I certainly understand that you wish to close the account.

XXX: While I am able to assist you with the account closure request, may I also know the reason why you wish to close the account?

XXX: Are you with me? Please respond so I can leave this chat window open to an any questions for you.

You: BOA support of efforts to curtail my 2nd amendment rights. A corp business should be customer related - not - trying to push some big-wig personal agenda via the corporation. The only way for me to disagree with a corp is to stop doing business with them. I am small potatoe, but too many small potatoes "can" cause stomach pains.

XXX: Martin, While we regret to hear of the experience you have described with Bank of America, we are glad that you have brought this to our attention.

XXX: Our commitment is to provide the highest level of service possible. These standards demand that we treat you and your requests with understanding, integrity and respect.

Last text message received XXX: To proceed, may I know the last four digits of the account in question please?

I just left BOA for this reason as well as their poor customer service. I joined a small local bank.

For those of you looking to leave one of the 'big banks', as both a member and employee of a large credit union, I'd suggest looking into joining a credit union close to you. Credit Unions are 'member owned'.

When you look for a credit union, ask if it is a member of the 'Credit Union Service Center'. If it is, you can do business, all over the country, with ANY other credit union that is also a member of that Service Center. This is great when you are on a trip, and don't want to deal with ATMs, or have a transaction that would exceed the allowed daily withdrawal from an ATM.

My credit union is in New England, but is able to take deposits, give withdrawals, and accept loan payments, for members of other credit unions, through 'Shared Branching'. We have folks come in to our branch, who are members of other credit unions in California, Colorado, and Washington State, as well as others across the country.

Are you sure that was a human on the other end of the chat? A computer could have done at least as well.

Those almost sound like automated responses, as if even the “personal” chat with a tech is some sort of AI system, and only escalates to a live person if the program gets in trouble.

My mortgage also went to BofA from Countrywide and now they want to foreclose. My first payments in May and June of 2009, they sent to JP Morgan Chase, even though I had the correct address for the payment and my account number was on my checks. Then they insisted my monthly payment was over $3000, when, in fact, it was less than half that. It took them from May of 2009 to August of 2011(despite countless phone calls and letters) to find out there was an escrow balance owing. I agreed to make my regular monthly payment plus an additional $500 and the rep agreed. They accepted my payment for that sum for August 2011 which, in my mind, indicated their positive acceptance of the deal. From Sept. to the present time, they have returned every payment to my bank. What fools—they would have had $5000 extra toward my escrow balance by now. I am at wit’s end and if anyone has any advice, it would certainly be appreciated.

XXX: You are standing at the end of a road before a small bank building. Around you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully.

You: Withdrawal

XXX: You are in a valley in the forest beside a stream tumbling along a rocky bed.

You: Withdrawal!

XXX: At your feet all the water of the stream splashes into a 2-inch slit in the rock. Downstream the streambed is bare rock.

You: Withdrawal

XXX: Your money won’t fit through a two-inch slit!

You: Close ACCOUNT!

XXX: You can’t go that way.

I left BofA when they started the program to give illegal aliens high interest rate credit cards several years ago. As I recall, there were numerous FReepers that did the same thing.

It offended my sensibilities three times. They are illegals and often have forged documents. I thought this is a very poor business decision because illegals could simply skip out leaving other customers/shareholders footing the bill. I also thought the extremely high interest rate was identical to the predatory lending BofA and others do on college campuses.

I spoke to the manager at my local branch and ironically, the guy speaking to her before me was doing the same thing. She said there had been several “very good” customers that had done the same.

Kudos for voting with your wallet. I think more of us should do this. I reserve the right to not watch movies, buy products, or do business with any company/union who supports and advocates issues that I disagree with. Too bad we can’t do the same with our taxes!

No advice, but just praying you get it straightened out. Life is hard enough without that hanging over your head!

Hadn’t used the card since they jack the interest rates.
I finally bit the bullet and stayed on the line long (~< forever)enough to close my credit account with them.

It was painful, let’s see if it really gets closed this time.

Thanks for the reminder
