WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration immigration policies and a record number of deportations last year.
The policy change, announced Friday by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who attend college or have served in the military.
The move comes in an election year in which the Hispanic vote could be critical in tossup states like Colorado, Nevada and Florida that could go either Republican or Democratic. While President Barack Obama enjoys support from a majority of Hispanic voters, Latino enthusiasm for the president has been tempered by the slow economic recovery, his inability to win congressional support for a broad overhaul of immigration laws and by his administration's aggressive deportation policy.
Activists opposing his deportation policies last week mounted a hunger strike at an Obama campaign office in Denver, and other protests were planned for this weekend.
Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials' annual conference next week in Florida. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

This is Obama’s America now, we will all live by his rules..... everyone better understand that.
No one. I made my call. Too bad you’re afraid of being on a mailing list to make yours.
It is sordid.
So, with a wave of his hand he just created over half a million extra votes for himself in November?
To bypass the legislative process is completely messed up. He must be desperate, and while he may gain a few votes from hispanics, he just lost a huge base of Americans.
Spain did this back in 2005 and granted amnesty to 700,000 and it hasn’t gone so well for them:

Those who received amnesty have been a drain on the economy. Those who were granted amnesty become bolder in their demands, welfare, accomodations, etc.
Spain also went the ‘green job’ route and that failed.
If he can’t learn from a recent failure from another country, then his agenda cannot be motivated to achieve success.
Hey, all you black yutes!
Obama just threw you under the bus!
Your unemployment is at 40-50% and Obama is letting all of this cheap Mexican labor in to take what ever jobs you hoped for.
How’s that for change?
“Literally high treason. Period.”
If so, Mr. Boehner and the Republican House should have no problem voting articles of impeachment next week. In fact, it is their sworn duty to do so. However, I’m not holding my breath.
Yeah that's what Paul Revere would've done.
People, you are not angry enough.
“People, you are not angry enough.”
We could write a letter.

Paul Revere?
I don't think they're coming at us with guns, just yet.
But you can feel free to record whoever you wish, without their permission!
No, because they don't have to. It's a near certainty they will never have to.

Next time Miss, I'll ride a horse door to door, town to town...
Deport all their asses.........send their country of origin the bill.........close the damn borders..........and stop caving to the whines of foreign leaders who stand to benefit from our lack of immigration oversight. Jeez, how hard is it to enforce your own law? Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!!!!
Paul Revere did more than “ride a horse door to door, town to town.”
A hell of a lot more.
Well, today, Obama got another 4 years in the White House. This is what the Republicans get for sitting on their a** for the last 12 years and doing nothing about the Immigration problem. Obama out maneuvered us. Think about it: Having to hear “President Obama” for 4 more years.
Ask them for permission to record the call.

In some states, Texas being one of them, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ASK PERMISSION. As long as one of the two parties on the line, know the call is being recorded, it is legal. You cannot record a phone call (with a hidden recording device) between to parties who are talking, and you are not one of the two parties. But, if you are one of the two parties in the conversation, you don’t have to even tell them it’s being recorded. That’s Texas. You might want to check your State Law regarding recording phone conversations.
Do we think Limpsy and the right will actually do something?

Is the Pope a Baptist?
Lets cut to the chase.
What specifically are you suggest be done right now?
Are you suggesting those who have not yet taken back the country by force at this point, are cowards?
Have you started a shooting war?
Have you stopped paying taxes?
