Pelosi: Obamacare Is A Right By Terence P. Jeffrey June 8, 2012
(CNSNews.com) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said at her Thursday press briefing that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care ActAKA Obamacreis not a privilege but a right.
At the same time, Pelosi also said Social Security and Medicare are rights.
Key elements of Obamacare include a provision requiring all individuals to purchase government-approved health-care plans, taxpayer-funded transfer payments to finance the purchase of health-care plans by individuals and families who earn less than 400 percent of the federal poverty level, and a regulation that requires all health-care plans to cover, without any fees or co-pay, sterilizations, contraceptives and abortifacients for all women with reproductive capacity."
A majority of the nations state governments challenged Obamacare in federal court, arguing that the federal government does not have the constitutional authority to force individuals to purchase health insurance. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on these challenges by the end of this month.
Pelosi made her statement that Obamacare is a right in response to a reporter who asked her about a CBS News/New York Times poll that showed 41 percent of Americans want the Supreme Court to overturn the law in its entirety while another 27 percent want the Supreme Court to throw out the individual mandate and keep the rest of the law.
Why do you think that is and what does that say in terms of the chance that the Supreme Court will strike it down? the reporter asked Pelosi.

If you have a right
To the service I provide,
I must be your slave.
They know. Just as planned so the economy will explode in celebration. Hiring will explode up. Businesses will expand explosively. All huge good upward numbers just in time for the re-election. Yes, with the help of the lame-street media, the American people are that stupid to give Obama the credit.
Hmmm...
So I have a right to a new Cadillac, and I can hand the bill to my neighbor??
Is that how it works?
No, ordering a 36 ounce sugar-laden beverage without being hassled by the food police is a “right”. Being able to choose my health care providers and insurers is a “right”.
Having my health care dictated to me, as in “single provider”, is certainly NOT a right in anyone’s vocabulary.
I am beginning to think Pelosi is on the RNC payroll.
It’s a right unless you want to pay the Democrats to opt out.
Trying to explain the concept of God given rights to Nancy Pelosi is like trying to explain calculus to a dog. She may give you an understanding look from time to time, but she just cannot grasp the fundamental concepts.
Must be true because she say’s that she knows the Constitution. The right to Obamacare must be in there somewhere.
If you’re not free then you are a slave.
A free person has the right to refuse; a slave does not.
Health care is not a right;
A college degree is not a right;
A driver’s license is not a right.
Mrs. Pelosi sounds like she’s shaking in her Pradas.
Pelicanosi is trying ‘desperwattly’ to frame the issue as the courts taking away an inalienable right. It is the usual democrat lying they always revert to since their souls are so darkened and truth is so foreign to them. It will get much worse as November draws near, so be ready to either expose the lies or ignore their effects upon dumbed down populace.
Exactly “right”.
A right isn’t a right if it imposes an involuntary burden on another person.
If it is a right, if it is good, then why have so many Democrat cronies been given exemptions from it?
Sorry Nancy, but I disagree. I’d have to say Obamacare is definitely a wrong.
The left defines individual freedom differently than we do.
It seems their definition of freedom centers around the alleviation of personal responsibility.
So, the more stuff that is “taken care of” by the government or anyone else, the “freer” they are.
She knows what the Supreme Court is going to do. 0bama knows. All the top dems do. Kagan already told them it’s a 5-4 or 6-3 vote to strike down the whole act. They are in some kind of spin mode to try to gin up an outcry over the Court decision. They want to rally the voters in November.
Personally, I don’t think it will work. The only outrage will be from the media, and they are preaching to the choir of moochers who are already voting for 0bama.
No - Obamacare is a FRIGHT.
I’ll disagree. Until he’s defeated and the chance of him finding anther way to implement his policies disappear with him then hiring will remain meager.
I want the right to fly on Air Force jets anywhere anytime I want, just like Nancy’s right. Equality for all, right?
Nothing that requires the interaction of another is a “right”.
If it gets struck down, first thing that will happen is a whole bunch of people will be summarily fired. Maybe enough people to tip us into the second dip (like we’re not there already). After that things may improve a bit.
If a constitutional right is something the government is supposed to force upon its citizens, then the right to keep and bear arms should be forced upon everyone. Eh, Nancy?
‘A right is a moral principle defining and sanctioning a mans freedom of action in a social context. There is only one fundamental right (all the others are its consequences or corollaries): a mans right to his own life. Life is a process of self-sustaining and self-generated action; the right to life means the right to engage in self-sustaining and self-generated actionwhich means: the freedom to take all the actions required by the nature of a rational being for the support, the furtherance, the fulfillment and the enjoyment of his own life. (Such is the meaning of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.)
‘The concept of a right pertains only to actionspecifically, to freedom of action. It means freedom from physical compulsion, coercion or interference by other men.
‘Thus, for every individual, a right is the moral sanction of a positiveof his freedom to act on his own judgment, for his own goals, by his own voluntary, uncoerced choice. As to his neighbors, his rights impose no obligations on them except of a negative kind: to abstain from violating his rights.
‘The right to life is the source of all rightsand the right to property is their only implementation. Without property rights, no other rights are possible. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life. The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave.
‘Bear in mind that the right to property is a right to action, like all the others: it is not the right to an object, but to the action and the consequences of producing or earning that object. It is not a guarantee that a man will earn any property, but only a guarantee that he will own it if he earns it. It is the right to gain, to keep, to use and to dispose of material values.’
-Ayn Rand
I’m not an objectivist myself but I think she was absolutely correct on these points. Someone needs to educate SanFranNan and her supporters about them.
They’re stuck on stupid. Our emergency room says no one will be turned away for financial reasons. We’re paying for them now either via Federal Funds or state funds. This is just another kitty to work with and payoffs to various folks like Planned Parenthood, Pharms etc.

Pelosi is slobbering out idiotic reassuring Obamacar statements by the hour. She knows it’s going down in flames and is growing apoplectic about it.
You had a RIGHT to that protection.
Guess she never learned that outside the Mob world people don't think of RIGHTS in the same way.
A right is anything you can do by yourself in the middle of nowhere.
Everything else is social contract.
pelosi is like a termite in the framework of the nation. Any time you hear her, or see her droppings, you know there is destruction afoot.
No it is not, it's a "left hook"
Exactly. She made the American people an “offer they can’t refuse” in her mind.
With thinking like that, I’ll never realize my “right” to free chocolate ice cream. ;)
Some folks in DC need schooling about the difference between a “right” and a “sentence”.....and it may well be they’re not gonna peacefully take it.
Video of statement;
Heres the thing, the American Affordable Care Act stands there with Social Security, Medicare, health care for all Americans as a right, not a privilege.”
But owning property is somehow a “privilege” huh, Nancy?
I now have the right to be happy rather than merely to pursue happiness.
If ever anyone deserved to rot in hell, it would be 0, Bawney and Nancy.
Pelosi is a walking spewing vomit bag. Seriously she has got to be puke-filled and rotting on the inside.
Keep talking Nancy, you’re driving more and more people towards the conservatives! Whoo too!!
Pelosi is a loon. Where does this “right” come from and where is it written? A flippin’ loon.
If this is true, then the government must provide for my other rights.
After Nancy runs down to the gun store to buy me a sweet revolver, she needs to trot her butt into the kitchen and make me a sandwich.
I want the right to fly on Air Force jets anywhere anytime I want, just like Nancys right. Equality for all, right?
Don’t forget the free booze. You have the right to live it up at the people’s expense, just like San Fran Nan.
Yes, Obamacare is not only unconstitutional but will only exacerbate the problems.
My ideas would not be popular but really should be enacted for the good of the Republic.
1) Medicare should be only for catastrophic care. No preventive care at all! We really do need some protection for the elderly as they age, but not so for all the benefits now available. If they really want to attempt to extend their life, at least they could pay for it and not pass it on to their children. Sorry, but the bullcrap about preventive medicine saving costs are just that - bullcrap!
2) All preventative care should be charged as additional insurance at competitive costs or paid for in cash by the participant, both the government (Medicare) and public insurance policies.
Yes, this goes against the grain of preventive care costs are necessary to decrease the costs of the eventual high cost care required if missed early - but, have you really seen any cost analysis benefit of this?
I’d bet that the preventive costs outweigh later costs by a factor of at least 3 or more. All of this preventive cost is born by the Medicare system and it really is out of sync with reality.
To save the medical system involves both reforms within the Medicare system and the private systems. Preventive care has become the latest effort to extract more monies from the citizens. I might add that the bad laws that enable frivolous lawsuits against Doctors is also one of the culprits. There are so many things that could be done to protect our Health Care system but the politicians are just too “bought” to protect the individual citizen.
When I see a REAL cost analysis appraisal that shows that preventive costs actually are saving us money then...
Yes, I’m on Medicare (not used) and hope to only be brought to the Doctor or Hospital by force. Otherwise, it would probably be just another waste of taxpayer money!
Thanks for letting me have my say...
Data? Source?
It really only takes common sense...
Take the millions that go for preventive care and compare it to those that actually benefit because of that. It does not take much to realize that the costs for the preventive care outweigh the costs of the few that actually needed care.
Show me any cost graph that show otherwise! It is simply another scheme to get money from health care addicts.
I could as easily ask for your proof, and is there no wisdom in the age old adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?
Well, I don’t disagree with you there, but really, just think about the costs of preventive care and compare it to the cost of those few that actually benefit from it.
I don’t expect you to believe it but you should at least give it a reasonable benefit of the doubt. Maybe just research the preventive benefit costs, or look at your own family and friends. How many go to the Doctor for preventative medicine and what are the costs? How many actually really need care because of that?
There are other solutions other than what Doctors proscribe. They do tend to go for the most advantageous solution to them ya know.
