Bangladesh indicts Islamic leaders for war crimes ... the chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, on 16 charges, including genocide and murder... Bangladesh — with help from India — won independence from Pakistan in 1971 after a nine-month war. Bangladesh says Pakistani soldiers, aided by local collaborators, killed some 3 million people, raped about 200,000 women and forced millions to flee their homes during the war.

Jamaat-e-Islami openly campaigned against breaking away from Pakistan during the war, and several party leaders now stand accused of collaborating with the Pakistani army in committing atrocities.

Genocide that’s never been acknowledged-Iv

We can see from A J Kamra’s book on Hindu Genocide in East Bengal from 1946 to 1964 that Mohamed Ali Jinnah, the first Governor General of Pakistan was directly overseeing the killing of Hindus, both in West and East Pakistan immediately after 15th August 1947.
Sample Image
Jinnah was residing in Karachi when the Genocide of the Hindus in Karachi and other cities and towns of Sindh occurred. He took no effective or substantial action to come to the rescue of the helplessly besieged Hindus or to hold the hand of his Muslim marauders and mobsters. Jinnah was to the Hindus of Pakistan what Hitler was to the Jews of Germany. This fact has been deliberately concealed by all the anti-national, anti-Hindu and anti-civilization historians (academic touts!) belonging to the Jawaharlal Nehru University and Aligarh Muslim University.

We can also see the arrogance of Jinnah in October 1947. Sri Prakasha in his book Pakistan: Birth and Early Days has said: ‘I remember the visit of two Parsi friends who made a special journey to Karachi with a message from Gandhiji expressing a desire to meet Jinnah. According to these friends, Gandhiji was feeling restless and anxious to come to Karachi. These friends quite authoritatively told me that Jinnah was not prepared to meet Gandhiji unless Gandhiji made himself the GOVERNOR GENERAL OF INDIA.’

Summing up on the dastardly role played by Jinnah in organizing the Hindu Genocide in Pakistan after Partition using the official authority of his high office and also carefully analysing the Islam-embracing and Hindu-hating policies of Jawaharlal Nehru during the crucial period from 1947 to 1951 and later till 1964, A.J. Kamra has declared as follows: ‘In retrospect, one is struck by a similarity between Mr. Jinnah and India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Mr Jinnah thought he was one of those rare Leaders in the World who had created a new country and splashed it onto the map of the World. Pundit Nehru thought he was one of the great World Leaders of this century. Both men were arrogant, conceited and dictatorial in running their Countries. Both have left their Countries in shambles and have caused great suffering to their people.’

When Partition of India was accomplished with undue haste on 15th of August 1947 and without any preparation at all, and after both India and Pakistan became independent Countries, Leonard Mosley in his book The Last Days of the British Raj described the ghastly final toll in these words. There were 600,000 dead, 14,000 000 driven from their homes, 100,000 young girls kidnapped by both sides, forcibly converted or sold on the auction block ....One convoy of Sikhs and Hindus from West Punjab was 75 miles long, and raiders (Muslim Mobs) who attacked it constantly en route did not need to watch for it: they could smell its coming, for it was riddled with Cholera and other foul diseases.....there took plays murder, looting, burning and raping such as the world has not seen since the days of Chengiz Khan.

Islamic indoctrination of the masses was persistently carried out in an organized manner in Pakistan, more particularly in East Bengal, after 15 August 1947. From the month of September 1949, the Pakistan Radio and Press switched their attention completely to Indo-Pak Disputes over Kashmir. Azad, the de facto organ of the Muslim League in East Bengal, and Morning News, an English Daily, surpassed all limits of ugliness in spreading concocted stories of Hindu atrocities upon Muslims in India. The Azad, day after day, vividly depicted stories of alleged killings of innocent Muslims in India, looting of their properties, wanton destruction of hundreds of Mosques, criminal assaults upon Muslim women, forceful stopping of Namaz and cow sacrifice, and putting hindrances to using of head gears and keeping beards by the Indian Musalmans.

The District Magistrates of Sylhet, Barisal, Dinajpur and Rajshahi Districts openly organized propaganda and preached against the Hindus in those Districts. During the months of November and December 1949 and January 1950, an alarming situation was developing in East Bengal. Persistent propaganda by Pakistan Radio and Press, inflammatory speeches by top Muslim Leaders, official connivance at mob violence, and lawlessness against Hindus - all these resulted in mob violence against the Hindus in Bianibazaar and Barlekh Taluks of Sylhet District, Putia Taluk of Rajshahi District, Bhandaria Taluk of Barisal District, Bagerhat Taluk of Khulna District, Comilla Taluk of Tipperah District and Feni Taluk of Noakhali District. The last incident of the preparatory phase for mass Hindu Genocide in East Bengal in 1949-50 took place on 2nd February 1950. In each of these incidents Government of East Pakistan directed its Police and para-military Ansars, a Government-controlled Muslim Militia to join their twin forces to attack the Hindus. Consequently this combined force indulged in arson, loot, murder of Hindus and other non-Muslims and carried on criminal assaults upon their women folk. Kamra has said in this context: ‘A little effort to spot these places in the map of East Bengal will show that these localities of communal riots are situated in Zones adjacent to the Indian frontier and were inhabited mostly by compact masses of scheduled caste Hindus.’

On 6 and 7 June 1950, Radio Pakistan gave a direct call to prepare and take action by repeated waving of an announcement to this effect: ‘Brethren! You have heard about the inhuman atrocities that are now being perpetrated on our brother Muslims in India and West Bengal. Will you not gather strength?’ Meanwhile Radio Pakistan also announced that 10,000 Musalmans had been killed in Calcutta. Pashban, a local daily of Dhaka, increased this figure to 100,000 (At the time of the Nehru-Liaquat Pact in April 1950, these figures were officially contradicted by Pak Radio and corrected to the effect that only 20 Muslims were killed in Calcutta) Our shameless anti-Hindu Islamic first Prime Minister Pundit Nehru never attempted even once to correct or contradict these figures given by Liaquat Ali Khan of Pakistan during that time.

The Hindu Genocide in Dhaka began on February 7, 1950 when the official mob consisting of employees of East Bengal Secretariat, accompanied by some Muslim women with carefully planted and planned stains of blood on their clothing, were paraded in the East Bengal Secretariat and then presented before the Chief Secretary of West Bengal Government who was then attending an inter-dominion Conference at the Secretariat. This ‘OFFICIAL MOB’ of the Secretariat later held a meeting at the Government Compound of the Secretariat and formed themselves into a procession, and paraded the main streets of Dhaka. This led to a general outbreak of riots all over the City of Dhaka. Later it spread to all parts of East Bengal.

In each of the seriously affected areas of Dhaka, Chittagong, Barisal and Sylhet Districts, riots were inaugurated by the Official Mob in the respective Districts, in the same way as described above: holding a public meeting, distributing inflammable leaflets and staging demonstrations in District Towns, un-interfered and un-obstructed by the Police, just as had been the case in Dhaka, the epicentre of the communal anti-Hindu agitation.

Kamra sums up the horrific story of February 1950 Hindu Genocide in East Bengal as follows: ‘The February 1950 riot as a political movement spread out at lightning speed from the epicentre of Dhaka to the distant areas of East Bengal almost simultaneously and remained in full fury for a period of nearly ten days. The general nature of the February 1950 riot included mass killing of the Hindus and the Buddhists, looting and burning of their properties, criminal assault upon and abduction of their womenfolk, desecration of the temples and mass conversion to the Muslim faith.’

Wilfred Lazarus, Staff Correspondent of the PTI, after he was allowed to go to Dhaka in March 1950, reported as follows, after carefully checking and cross-checking the facts on 14 March, 1950: ‘The employees of the Secretariat staged a demonstration at the gate of the Government Secretariat at 11.00 am on the morning of 10 February, 1950. The demonstrators shouted anti-Indian slogans and demanded retaliation against the riots in Calcutta. They then marched in a procession through the city’s main thoroughfares, the procession swelling in size as it progressed. It ended in a public meeting at the Victoria Park, in Nawabpur area of the city. The organizers made inflammatory speeches exhorting the people to take immediate action against Hindus and shouted slogans such as ‘we should retaliate’. Immediately after the public meeting the riots broke out.... Utter lawlessness prevailed in the city. Policemen went round in trucks asking Hindu shop-keepers to close. Hindu shops and homes were looted and burnt, while the temples and Ashrams were blunted. ...Hindu homes, shops, temples and Ashrams were looted in several areas of Dhaka City, especially in Lalbagh, Nawaganj, Islampur and Armanittolla.’

Dr Sita Ram, the then disgraceful India’s High Commissioner in Pakistan who returned from a tour of disturbed areas of East Bengal reported in an irresponsible manner to the Government of India on March 9, 1950 as follows: ‘Hindus in East Bengal are panicky, perplexed, helpless and leaderless...some very unhappy incidents occurred on Railway Trains and occasionally on steamers and at least once on an aerodrome....:Luckily our Prime Minister has visited Calcutta and thrown his whole energy for the solution of this delicate problem.’

It is atrocious to note how Dr Sita Ram could describe the mass murders carried out in an organized manner under the State-Sponsored Programme of Hindu Genocide of February 1950, in East Bengal as just ‘Unhappy Incidents’.

The Anti-Hindu Pogroms
The situation of the Hindu minority, particularly concentrated in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) was tensed since Independence. They generally lived the life of second-class citizens and were occasionally targeted in major pogroms. The first case of mass violence against Hindus occurred in East Pakistan at the beginning of 1950. It was started by the spread of false rumors, somewhat encouraged by the official media, and degenerated into retaliatory violence between West and East Bengal.
Then, a new pogrom occurred in 1964 again in East Pakistan allegedly due to the loss of Prophet Mohammad’s hair from the Hazratbal mosque in Kashmir, India. There was however also a strong economic incentive as the attacks were originally directed toward the Hindu-owned cotton mills located nearby non-Bengali Muslim, mostly Bihari, factories. In 1971, during the civil war between the Pakistani army and the Bengali Mukti Bahini, the former organized massacres against the Hindus in East Pakistan as it was documented in the previous section dealing with the East Pakistan civil war.
Since the break-up of Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh, the Hindu community, which remained in Pakistan, most of them concentrated in small pockets in Baluchistan and Sindh, though not suffering from acts of mass violence, has been constantly discriminated and harassed as it was the case with Ahmadis. These acts of violence against Hindus in Pakistan have been systematically and precisely detailed in the successive annual reports of the HRCP since 1992.

The Great Anti-Hindu Pogrom of 1950

1950; January: A clash broke out between Communists and the police in the Kalshira village of the Bagerhat area of Khulna district during which some policemen were killed. The police then retaliated by destroying some houses in the village some of which belonged to Hindus. The latter decided to migrate to India and spread a rumor of atrocities on Hindus, which was relayed by the West Bengal press. This rumor generated attacks on Muslims in West Bengal. In retaliation, Muslims from Kalshira and the neighboring villages began to target Hindus in the area.

1950; February: Atrocities against Hindus went on especially in Dhaka and Khulna from the second week of February. These atrocities mainly took the shape of murder, arson and forcible conversion. Violence then spread to the coastal district of Barisal where five to seven thousand Hindus were said to be killed. *(Roy, 2007: 202).

1950; February 12, The Meghna Bridge Massacre: The Meghna Bridge, also known as the Bhairab Bridge and the Anderson Bridge, is a one-kilometer long bridge, which spans the wide Meghna river between Bhairab Bazar Junction on the Dhaka-Mymensingh eastern line and Ashganj near Brahmanbaria. Assailants boarded both sides of the train just before it got on the bridge and blocked the doors. They then stopped the train once it was fully on the bridge. Finally, they methodically picked out all the Hindus that were on the train and systematically killed them. *(Roy, 2007: 211).
