"Krauthammer likened the scenario to former incumbent President Jimmy Carter’s effort to disparage the credibility of his challenger Ronald Reagan, which fell short after the debates during the 1980 presidential election."

Really?

On the face of it, Clinton hurt Obama. But what he really did is drive the issue of Bain off the front page and by doing so he helped the Obama campaign.

Had he kept his peace, and Obama kept flapping his lips about Bain, Obama would have dug himself into a big hole when detailed comparisons to his green energy programs went viral. They are out there now, but the issue is now dying.

This was essentially a backfire, a self-started fire to avoid a bigger fire. The 'vulture capitalist' problem is now an internal Dem vs Dem deal, and not so much a Obama vs Romney deal.

What it proves is that Clinton is a master politician, and Obama is an amateur, and that Krauthammer doesn't always think too deep.

The sentence has a dangling modifier. Carter’s effort fell short, not Reagan’s credibility. Is that what you were questioning?
