That first paragraph is jarring. Is it accurate? How can one be "treated and released" after being "attacked with hammers and crowbars?" Why do I only read about in a non-mainstream editorial?

You can bet if it was three rainbow-wearing queers that were attacked with hammers and crowbars, the world would know about it.

I'm sickened, but not surprised either by the attacks on French Jews, or by the media's complicit silence on the matter.

I have told a story on this forum more than once, of how I met a Holocaust survivor in the old Jewish Quarter of Paris about 30 years ago - how he showed me his camp tattoo and explained to me in a combination of French and Yiddish about the night the German occupiers came to take him and his family away. He survived. They did not.

I have never forgotten that conversation or the look in his eyes: at once haunted, fierce, and pleading. He pointed to a memorial plaque on a wall above the street and asked me to "never forget". I haven't. As a Jew myself, I cannot.
