The Environmental Protection Agency declined to answer questions this week as the Omaha World-Herald sought to clarify whether the agency had the legal authority to conduct overflights of cattle operations to determine if cattle are pooping in streams in the Midwest.
I dont know much about bovine latrine habits, but Ive been around enough pastures to know that cattle really arent that particular.
It seems to me that they let go pretty much wherever they are, stream or no.
So I think I can say with some authority, that, yes, cattle all around the Midwest are indeed pooping in streams, legally or otherwise.
Thats the kind of rugged individualists that cow herds appear to be now in face of the bullying- pun intended-cowards in the Obama administration. Its gotten so bad that not content to rough up people, the Obama administration has to go do some environmental cow-tipping.
Whats supposed to be sport for drunk people, is now official policy.
Wow.
And I really dont need to see the pictures to know that cows are standing up for liberty when they poop all over the EPA in this way.
But bureaucrats, being what they are, the cow-hating crime fighters from DC have now taken to the skies 16 times in Nebraska and Iowa to help identify cattle that arent washing their hands prior to returning to work, so to speak.
Next week I hear they are getting hair nets and plastic name tags for the cows.
I found an unattributed quip on the internet over the last few days that perfectly explains the increasing fascination progressives have with fascism: You can now marry your same-sex first cousin in New York and get an abortion with taxpayer money, but you can't have a large Pepsi.
And cows can only poop in designated areas.
Good luck.
Thank goodness we killed off the numberless buffalo. Imagine all those millions of bison roaming the West with no bathroom attendant.
According to the Herald, the EPA thinks the flights have legal precedence.
While the EPA would not answer questions on the record, they did release a statement saying:
Courts, including the Supreme Court, have found similar types of flights to be legal (for example to take aerial photographs of a chemical manufacturing facility) and EPA would use such flights in appropriate instances to protect people and the environment from violations of the Clean Water Act.
Wait: I thought the whole purpose of the flights was to protect us from B.S., not spread even more of it. I mean if we are actually going to fine people for spreading B.S. we could start in the White House.
Senator Mike Johanns, a Republican from Nebraska, who used to serve as agriculture secretary, says that the EPA has overstepped its authority, which it derives from congress.
They are just way on the outer limits of any authority they've been granted, he said according to the Herald.
Johanns told the CattleNetwork that [m]y concerns are many adding that the EPA has little trust out in the country and people will get fired up about the overflights.
The Nebraska Senator took to the agriculture airwaves on May 31st to express concern about small planes circling local feedlots.
Its happening, and Im trying to find out just whats involved, Johanns told AgriTalk radio.
According to the CattleNetwork, the Nebraska congressional delegation has sent a letter to EPA administrator Lisa Jackson asking for an explanation of the statutory authority under which EPA is conducting the surveillance, along with the purpose of the flights, their frequency and their use in enforcement actions.
Good luck.
This is an administration that wont answer questions as to why it illegally sold guns to Mexican drug cartels.
Expect more cow stuff.
Winning The Future?
It looks so much like a Senate Majorty meeting or a White House Cabinet meeting, they thought it might be good info....
Welcome to the River Navigator series of fresh water protections the Leftists said would never affect the average land owner.
If it’s a drop of water that might wind up in a river at some point, look out. The Nanny State is here to help.
The Left can defecate on our heads, but let those cows go near fresh water and out comes the swat team.

Now that we know one answer, they want to find out about cattle?
It is looking more and more like the feds are looking for a way to both spy on attempt to control fly over country. These are folks they consider to be enemies of the state.
The EPA rises to an occasion it can finally handle...monitoring meadow muffins.
Everyone in that area relied mostly on wells and they became contaminated and no county water was available. Even today many of the farm families still have to use water buffalos the company brought in. Does wonders for their property values.
I doubt if they are going after Uncle Bob and Aunt Martha and their Bessie the cow.
How far do you lead a drone?
Purely a science question.
“Purely a science question”
I would need altitude, speed, downrange distance, wind direction and sheer betwen the observer and the target.
Depends on whether it is (a) flying, (b) walking, or (c) a type of bee. Scientifically speaking.
EPA has gone rogue. It needs to be shut down completely.
We have a bill of rights that is supposed to protect us from government, but there is no bill of rights to protect you from regulators. You don’t elect them, you can’t unelect them; their rules have the force of law but no one has ever voted on them for or against.
They are not bound by law since they write the laws themselves.
We are morphing into a monarchy; the monarchs wear suits and ties except on casual Fridays. They rule by decree and their decrees are beyond appeal. Heaven help you once they turn their eyes on you because their legal budgets are unlimited.
If the EPA has determined that there is good cause, then let them present that evidence to a judge and get a warrant to conduct legal activity.
They don’t need drones to accomplish that.
These people think they have a right to do any damned thing they want to the average citizen of the United States.
Frankly, I’m getting damned tired of it.
You can now marry your same-sex first cousin in New York and get an abortion with taxpayer money, but you can’t have a large Pepsi.
I think it has very much to do with the fact that the pepsi is an inanimate object available to all peoples, and can actually be controlled by govt and dealt with objectively. Things that have to do with people, feelings, morals, etc., cannot/should not, be controlled or dealt with objectively.
EPA and bovine scatology in the same sentence/headline — sounds about right to me!
While it may be *technically* legal, spying on American citizens is still spying.
That's my guess....since I live in a BIG cattle ranching area.
I’m thinking that this might be some fun sport for someone with an ultralight. Air-to-air combat.
Good article. My hatred for the EPA is nearly limitless.
You are probably right. The farm that was in trouble in my area just did not control the manure waste effectively and it got in the groundwater.
Everyone in that area relied mostly on wells and they became contaminated and no county water was available. Even today many of the farm families still have to use water buffalos the company brought in. Does wonders for their property values.
I doubt if they are going after Uncle Bob and Aunt Martha and their Bessie the cow.
You're pathetic. Go back to DU and finish reading your shill manual.
Unless you're conservative - then there's no problem dealing with you VERY objectively.
Meanwhile in New Jersey, dogs have to be restrained by seat belts when traveling in a car, truck or van. They are just supposed to know its for their own protection and quietly submit to the situation like the cows are supposed to understand that they must avoid pooping in a stream. I don’t think I can take much more of this ridiculousness.
Man that "constitutional" stuff is so last century. Get over it.
Yep, mounting a .22 long rifle semi-auto on an Ultra Light with appropriate sights, a 50 round drum and firing mechanism, it might be a lot of fun to go after a drone and see how well the operator could avoid you.
1984 mark
Cow poop is fragrant compared to the government’s shit.
“You must be entertaining bird hunting.”
Yes, exactly right...those doves are quick lil buggers.
I was just thinking about how Obama would have had to buckle a seatbelt on his Kenyan dog if he drove it through NJ on his way to Chicago to have it for dinner.
LOL... evidently so true huh.
God only knows what the EPA would do , probably go apoplectic, if they actually had dinosaurs around today to contend with and then what would they do with unicorns and fire-breathing dragons?
The level of climatic debate has stunk to new lows.
Cow poop actually helps things grow as opposed to the gubment variety.
NewsFalsh!
EPA, according to the CBD, has just awarded a 100 million$$ renewable contract to American Pie Corporation, of St. Louis, MO, for
production of 9 million Cattledung Recovery And Processing scoops [CRAP] at a cost of $10. [DUH]-
Each farmer is required to buy at least one CRAP scoop for each head of cattle, so as to prevent cross-contamination of the CRAP.
Available CRAP scoopers come color-coded to match the color of each animal: white, brown, dung, ochre or tan or mixed.,
Each CRAP scooper will be barcoded to match the ear tag RFID of each animal. Any switching of CRAP scoopers from assigned animals will result in a $1,000 fine and 30 days probation policing county grounds for litter removal.
1. How much fuel does it have?
2. How continuous is the communication link?
How in the heck do you restrain a dog with seat belts?? My English Setter stands up on the center console and watches the road ahead for evil, wiley birds and rabbits...not the best thing I know to do(allow her to stand that way)but she has doing it for years and won't stay in the back seat...high energy dog.
Just yesterday a Freeper on another thread (sorry, can’t remember which one) said that they saw a drone flying over their farm. It flew in a straight line, turned and then back in the opposite direction, and did that until it covered the entire property.
I’ll bet it won’t be long before we hear of these things having “hard landings”.
I have NEVER seen a cattle feedlot with a stream running thru it.
This is just more waste of taxpayer money.
You doubt too much. I'd wager that you doubted that these drones would ever be used against US citizens. The FedGov always goes after those whom they see as easy targets.
“I grew up in a farming area and 6 years ago there was a major problem with a corporate farm and cow poop getting in the water tables.”
I moved out of a house I rented in college that was surrounded by pastures full of cattle when the well water tested positive for fecal coliform bacteria.
The landlord’s solution for the next tenant was to dump a couple of gallons of Clorox down the well.
I think we ought to shut down the EPA and let the chips fall where they may.
