ALBANY — The New York Police Department, the mayor and the city’s top prosecutors on Monday endorsed a proposal to decriminalize the open possession of small amounts of marijuana, giving an unexpected lift to an effort by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to cut down on the number of people arrested as a result of police stops...

So, in Bloomber's New York, it's perfectly fine to be stoned, walk, work, and drive around the city. But, don't you dare be caught drinking a large soda.

What then happens, when a marijuana smoking NYC resident, has an urge to drink a large soda?

Yep, in NYC you can score dope or get a 9-month abortion, but you’ll have to sneak over to Joisey for a Big Gulp

I agree! It is cruel torture to deny a pot head with wicked dry mouth the ability to purchase a Big Gulp!

Bloomberg is insane.

First of all, I think the soda law is insulting to the decent people that live in this city and makes me hate Bloomberg even more than I ever imagined.

However, abusing soda is far more dangerous than abusing pot. If pot is eaten or inhaled without smoking, there are no damaging effects that have ever been recorded. It is 100% natural, non-toxic and with no possibility of overdose. It is less addictive and far less toxic than caffeine. Many athletes, doctors and trainers I know consume it but would never touch mass-produced soda. Soda is mostly synthetic junk.

Recently, a 30 year old woman died and her coca cola habit was cited as a cause of death. She was so addicted to the caffeine and sugar that she kept consuming it while sick until her body shut down. This has never ever happened in the history of pot and humans have been consuming it thousands of years longer than soda.

I agree with you, but how much do you want to bet that if Bloomberg is the Republican nominee in 2016 or 2020, he would be the cat’s meow around here. He would be put up on a pedistal and honored for his wonderfulness just like Romney is. People never would have thought in 2008 that Romney would be our nominee in 2012 and look what happened and suddenly he is a hero...barf.

Nobody is making a hero of Romney.

We all know he sucks, but Obama sucks even more.

As for Bloomberg deciding what laws he will support, he is just taking his cue from Obama who is doing the same thing.

Of course he’s backing this. He’s a smoker himself. Look how it has stunted his growth.

Bloomie’s a billionaire and it’s a good thing. If he were a working stiff like us and had to get around on his own instead of having a car and driver he couldn’t because he can’t see over the steering wheel.

My personal belief is that this is another big mistake - another camel nose under the tent.

Like everyone else in the USA, I could not avoid coming in contact with a fair number of dope smokers through my life. In fact, it seems they permeate our culture in all walks of life and at all levels of society.

I agree with those who believe dope is more of a gateway drug than a final destination for dopers.

Those with whom I have had more than a fleeting acquaintance never seem to drift away from dope - they always end up smoking more dope, and/or gravitating to other, more serious, types of drug abuse.

I recently lost a young nephew who followed that path to his grave - and his circle of still living friends are following in his footsteps.

Just saying.....

Below is my endorsement of Romney. If this is putting him on a pedestal, glorifing, or making a hero of him then yes I’m guilty.

“Who thought a year ago when Conservatives were saying “ANYBODY BUT oBAMA” we would actually get the anybody? It’s time to “swallow the bitter pill”, “eat crow”, “gangrene has set in, time to cut off the foot”. I do not believe voting third party or not voting will result in obama being removed from office. I also believe that electing Romney will not begin to solve our problems but at least we will be able to look forward to elections in 2014 and 2016. If obama is re-elected I believe any future elections will be a complete sham. A bumper sticker that read “VOTE for the RINO, IT’S IMPORTANT” would be in order but may dampen enthusiasm for those that have it.

There, that does it Romney now has my official endorsement, my promise to vote for the Republican nominee will be honored, I’m also going to send a small check to the NRC, probably with a note attached, and a small check to the Romney campaign, with a small check attached, and a check to Newt to help pay off his obligations and a note attached thanking him for what he has done for Conservatives, Republicans and the Nation and for stepping forward again in these troubled times and pointing us to the right path even though we chose to turn left.”

Anticipating all the arrests they’ll be making for people drinking big gulps, they have to make room in jail - so release the druggies and never lock them up again.

All you have to do is compare cannabis based cultures like the Middle East, with alcohol based cultures like Western civilization, to see what a couple of thousand years of Cannabis does to humans when it become widespread enough.

I've heard that before but don't think Cannabis is the main difference between those cultures.

Cannabis originated and was actually far more commonly used in India and China than the Middle East. It is frequently mentioned in Chinese texts since about 3000 BC. And Indian texts since 2000 BC. It is always referred to as a ‘sacred’ or ‘healing’ herb.

Also, before Islam the Middle East was actually far more advanced than Europe. Look at non-Islamic ME nations like Israel and Persia. For nearly all of recorded history, Israel has been one of the most intelligent, advanced and innovative nations on the planet. Iran was a very prosperous advanced nation until the Islamic revolution. If you look at the original Hebrew bible, the recipe for ‘anointing oil’ calls for several pounds of “canna-bosem” to be slowly cooked in oil. It is believed that Jesus was covered in this oil and most likely received a heavy dose of cannabis through the skin. The alternate modern explanation is cinnamon but being covered in such concentrated cinnamon would be unbearable.

Cannabis use is still very accepted in Israel and is legal except for a prohibition on selling large quantities. The modern world would not be the same without Israeli innovations. The most intelligent people I know are Israeli cannabis smokers.

Cannabis use as an intoxicant means to be like Middle Easterners are and is universal among Cannabis users everywhere, I have never heard that Judaism is a Cannabis based religion instead of alcohol.

Knowing of pot and using it's products is not the same us using it in place of alcohol, that is why Western Civilization has used it for thousands of years, but it never came into use as an intoxicant.

In typical pothead fashion you attribute Jewish and Arab greatness to pot, and of course as is the rule among dope heads since they themselves are hooked on the drug and have come under it's influence, you feel that the “most intelligent people I know are Israeli cannabis smokers”.

No culture has ever been intoxicant “based”. Irresponsible abuse of any intoxicant is damaging to any culture. You can see it today with alcohol abuse in Eastern Europe and we saw it in the pre-prohibition period in the US. Prohibition was tried in both the US and the USSR before people understood that it caused more trouble than it solved.

Intoxicants have always been an integral part of humanity. Because humans understand the harsh reality we live in, we have always been using intoxicants (this includes far more than just substances) to help us forget and relax the mind. Every successful culture also understands that focused work is necessary to better our reality.

I'm not attributing the greatness of Chinese, Indian and ME civilizations to the use of cannabis any more than you can attribute the greatness of western civilization to alcohol. Those cultures rose to greatness and stayed there far longer than western civilization without any prohibition. Cannabis grew wild throughout most of those regions. Numerous historical records cite cannabis fields so thick that attempts to clear them resulted in the workers being too intoxicated from simply being around them.

Today, cannabis is still almost as easy to get and will never be stopped. Any idiot can grow more than they can smoke in a box the size of a nightstand.

“most intelligent people I know are Israeli cannabis smokers”

The scientific, mathematics and engineering communities have far more smokers than you can imagine. I'm talking about people that have the highest known honors in their respected fields. I felt the same way you did about cannabis until I got to know many of them. The propagandized “stoner” is not what most cannabis users are like. You only see the “stoners” because the others are not stupid enough to get caught or tell people like you about it...
