Has the federal government gone insane?
1. I mean, when did it become a crime to stop non-citizens from voting in our elections, especially in our presidential elections?
2. Is the federal government unbelievably telling Florida that it must allow non-citizens to vote, say, in the presidential election in Nov. 2012?
3. Again, has the federal government gone insane?
4. Why not take the federal government's demand to its extreme and tell everyone in world to come to Florida so that they can vote in the upcoming Nov. 2012 presidential elections?
5. Does being an American citizen have any value any more?
6. Sick. Sick. Sick.
You write that “no law of any kind prohibits a state from ensuring that non-citizens do not vote.”
According to the linked article, there is a law that prohibits Florida from doing it at this time. If the state tries to purge someone who’s actually a citizen, it might take time for the citizen to provide documentation, for the state to evaluate it, and for the citizen to be included in voter lists sent out to polling places. Therefore, under the National Voter Registration Act, the state can’t do a purge program within 90 days before a primary or general election. Florida needed to do this earlier (I think the primary is in mid-August).
It’s not like this is a new issue. Why did the geniuses in Florida wait until after the deadline before they tried to start purging?
