No more super-sized Cokes. Forget about 64-ounce stomach-busting sodas at KFC. Even 20-ounce Snapples are on Mayor Bloombergs latest heath-conscious hit list.
In a dramatic move to reduce obesity, the city is going to become the first in the nation to impose a 16-ounce limit on the size of sweetened beverages sold in food establishments that receive letter grades from the Health Department, as well as mobile food carts.
The list includes more than 20,000 restaurants, as well as movie theaters, stadiums and arenas. Bloomberg posed for a photo-op yesterday where he used sugar cubes as props to highlight how sugary the drinks are.
The big-drink ban would take effect in March 2013 after public hearings. It would apply to bottled drinks as well as fountain sodas.
There would be no restrictions placed on diet sodas or beverages with less than 25 calories per 8 ounces. But stores that allow customers to draw their own fountain drinks wouldnt be allowed to stock cups larger than 16 ounces, to prevent switches from diet to non-diet beverages. Stores that dont downsize would face fines of $200. Supermarkets, grocery stores and other food sellers would not be affected.

You could apply the same logic to salt levels, cholesterol levels, etc. If you don't pass the test, you don't get to eat.
It would be so much better for the country if the government prohibited people from poor dietary choices. Think of how better off people's lives would be.
Is this where the nanny state would like to take us?
Is that you Paula Deen?
It looks like his approval rating as of April 2012 was around 44%. I can’t find more recent numbers, but it looks like NYC is tired of his superiority.
It looks like he’s also working on behalf of Rangel’s re-election. Solid conservative guy there...
Let them ban hi cap mags and hi cap sodas are soon to follow.
He has always been a demoncrap. he just had no chance of winning the D primary and the Rs had no one worth remembering to step into Rudy's shoes. Bloominidiot changed from D to R and basically bought the Mayor's office.
So people will just order two or three drinks to begin with. There are so many ways around this it’s laughable.
Perhaps Bloomy needs to go back to running undercover gun sales stings here in Ohio.
What is really funny about this: everybody know that after you order the double bacon cheese burger with large fries, the beverage of choice is always a DIET Coke!
It’s all about power with this dooshbag. He could care less about the health of people. I had a cop tell me everyday someone in NYC is killed now riding a bike or hitting someone while riding a bike. Before it would be rare and I believe it because all the time I see someone get hit when before I would almost never, jst the occasional bike messenger. Last week I saw a bike plow into a car door when the guy opened it. And the only reason Dooshberg promotes this and builds all these bike lanes is so he can brag to the liberal elites at cocktail parties that he is doing his part for global warming even though it gets people killed, makes traffic umpteen times worse and holds up emergency service vehicles. 1st avenue right near the 59th street bridge is a freakin nightmare now ever since he put in bike lanes. The traffic is always backed up now all the way across the bridge into Queens and the ambulances trying to get to the hospitals on York avenue are constantly stuck in this traffic. All so this faggot can mince and tut “I telllll you Buuunnny, I can soooooo much better breeeathe since I now have the peasants riding biiikes. Tah ha ha ha”
We¹re not taking away your right to buy soda -— in the supermarket which we don¹t regulate you can still buy a 32-oz can full sugar drink or bottle,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday. “But in a restaurant, they can¹t serve more than 16 oz in anyone cup. You¹re free to say I want two 16 oz cups. All the studies show that if the portion put before you is bigger, you will eat dramatically more than if the portion put before you is smaller. So, we¹re trying to encourage people to live longer.

I heard he wants you think about what you are doing. Then why not put restraint on alcohol served? And let us not mention abortion.
We know most people drink more soda at home in a year than a outside places so this will accomplish nothing. He wants you to think about it.
“Is there something wrong with the people of New York City that they need Mike to be their nanny? Whats up with that?”
Taxpaying, freedom-loving individualists fled that city decades ago; now there are just illegal aliens, the permanent unassimilated underclass, and wealthy people who want a police state to protect them from negroes (and apparently fat, unhealthy people as well).
There is nothing remotely “American” about NYC; I live 10 miles from there and haven’t been there in nearly 10 years. When I was younger we’d buy fireworks there; others would go to buy drugs. There really is nothing else there.
“in the supermarket which we don¹t regulate...”
...Yet.
If I ran a private restaurant in NYC and this passed, I would immediately close up shop. Signs would be posted in the windows informing passersby the number of people who are now out of work due to Bloomberg telling me what my customers want.
