In a surprise move, House Republicans announced this past Friday they would call for a vote on a federal ban against sex-selective abortion, aka the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, H.R. 3541*, tomorrow, May 30.

PRENDA will be considered under “suspension of the rules,” meaning no amendments can be added. The bill must be voted on as is, straight up or down, and a two-thirds majority will be needed to pass it.

Jordon Seculow, aclj.org, said on his radio show today that the bill will probably be voted on tomorrow, so we have more time.

Tell your congressperson to vote YES for H.R. 3541 to BAN sex-selection!

Since the bill needs TWO-THIRDS of votes to pass, Jordon Sekulow said we will need votes from the Democrats, as well as Republicans.

2/3rds to pass?

the GOPe doesn’t want it to pass. They could have added it as a rider to something else with a bare majority if they really wanted it to pass.

I’m all in favor of limiting abortion — but let’s get real.

This is nothing more than “conservative political theater”, from a GOP-let House that can’t cut spending, can’t curb the EPA, can’t hold Eric Holder’s DOJ to account, etc. ad nauseum.

But they can gin up meaningless political stunts like there’s no tomorrow.

It’s a campaign publicity event and it will gain no traction.

“Planned Parenthood does not obey the laws anyway”

But when they get caught, they suffer the consequences, and some PPs had to close their doors.

I’m guessing it needs 2/3rd to pass so the POTUS can’t Veto it.

But all the pro-life organizations are fighting for this for a reason, which certainly shows it’s worth our time in making a phone call.

The life issue is more important than cutting spending.

From the link in OP:

“If you do nothing else today, take 30 minutes to read that study. It will stick with you. It is awful. And it is happening in America.

Please make your call.

*The section banning abortions on basis of race has been removed. This is now solely a bill on sex-selective abortions.”

Come on guys this bill will mean nothing, it just lets us seem a little outraged over abortion, when in fact the GOPe have been for abortion since the beginning.

No, it needs 2/3 majority because they’re bringing it up under suspension of rules — straight up or down vote, no amendments possible.

I applaud your zeal, but if you’re going to be a political activist, you need not to “guess” at how the system works — you need to invest the energy to *learn* how it *really does* work.

Many GOP politicians ARE pro-life; in fact, Bush, despite his faults, gave us two pro-life justices.

Of course, if you’d rather just give up, why are you visiting FR, a website for ACTIVISTS?

Reading some of these posts, makes it clear why the left is winning, and BIG TIME. The left NEVER gives up, even when the situation seems impossible.

We get the govt. we deserve.

As you mature, you’ll learn there’s a difference between expending energy effectually to achieve a worthwhile result — and wasting precious time and energy in delusional thinking and actions.

(Or maybe you’ll never learn. Who am I to judge.)

From a pro life viewpoint, what difference does it make if the baby is murdered because it is not wanted, or murdered because it is not wanted due to its gender? This bill bans the latter and still allows the former. And how would they enforce this? The person who wants to gender select will simply just say they don’t want the baby.

It is meaningless fluff, a dog and pony show.

Part of my email from Family Research Counsel (Tony Perkins’ group):

“Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) has done everything in his power to ensure that it will act, as he works to get more members on board with his Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act before its vote tomorrow. Under Franks’s bill, H.R. 3541, the U.S. would join most industrial democracies in outlawing gender-based abortion. Believe it or not, all but four states— Illinois, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Arizona—allow it. “Our innate sense of human fairness should make it abundantly clear that aborting a little baby because he or she happens to be black or because he or she has been arbitrarily deemed ‘lesser’ is fundamentally wrong, representing a betrayal of the precious truth that all men are created equal...” Rep. Franks said.

Under the current rules, the House will need a two-thirds majority to pass legislation that everyone, including radical liberals, should support. If the Left, and especially feminists, were truly concerned about women, they’d be leading the charge to criminalize sex-selection abortion and protect the world’s baby girls. Help Rep. Franks fight back by contacting your congressman today and urging him to vote yes on H.R. 3541.”

The pro-aborts don’t consider it a “dog and pony” show. Around 30 pro-abort groups are joining together to pressure Dems to vote against this pro-life bill.

Remember, whenever we contact our reps about voting for ANY pro-life bill, we are showing them we care about the life issue.

When my husband called our rep., the aide who answered the phone, wanted him to talk to one of the lawyers there studying the bill, and they have a good, informative conversation (both sides). Glad some are taking all pro-life bills seriously.

btw, read Father Pavone, of Priests for Life’s, tweets:
