When the homeowners turned on the lights, they saw Ripple on the floor with a gunshot wound to her hip

So let me get this straight. They just shot her in the dark without knowing who it was or if the person meant harm??? Then turn the lights on??? Something doesn't make sense here.

If they had turned the lights on and seen this harmless wayward waif wandering into their bedroom, would they have still shot her??? Maybe that is what really happened. Do the lights in their house only go on after a gun is fired???

These people need a flashlight or a better story.

Get serious. I am not going to ruin my dark adapted eyes by turning on the light. NOONE has the right to be in my home in the middle of the frigging night. Expect to be shot if you are.

Agree! Nobody should shoot without knowing who/what they are shooting at. Could have been a 10 year old for all they knew!

He knew that the only other person authorized to be in the house was in bed with him. Turning on the lights may have been useful for identifying the intruder, but would also illuminate THEM to a potentially-armed intruder. In their situation, I would see no need to give away an advantage to an intruder.
