WALTER REED - DC: Post Closing Report May 23,2012
Cindy_True_Supporter

MESSAGE FROM CINDY-TRUE-SUPPORTER:

"Yesterday I (Cindy_True_Supporter) and the mother of a wounded warrior that I met before the closing of Walter Reed- DC had the opportunity to have lunch with Cliff, the evening manager of the Mologne House at WRAMC. He conveyed to me how important our group was outside of Walter Reed with supportive signs of our wounded troops. He stressed that our presence was of tremendous importance in their recovery and in trying to deal with depression and self worth. Our appearance at the gate and on the corners in front of the hospital was something they could count on every Friday evening. They were so amazed that people would care enough to come out over a period of years in any weather condition without an agenda other than supporting our military. So many VIPs went into Walter Reed for a photo op and a pat on their own backs for showing support of our military. Cliff repeatedly remarked on the many times he was told by the patients and their families how much we were appreciated, and that we would probably never know how much good our efforts had on the recovery process of the wounded."

"He asked if our group still got together so I could extend a big THANK YOU on his behalf for Mologne House staff. Since we rarely see each other on a regular basis any more, I’m writing this message to tell all of our group of patriots who came out to WRAMC - YOU WERE SO IMPORTANT IN THE HEALING OF OUR MILITARY!"

I was unable to join in your rallies because of my work schedule, which is heavy. I've followed your reports and you've done an outstanding job of honoring our wounded warriors. I thank you on their behalf, and I thank you on behalf of an earlier generation of our veterans.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!

I only managed to make one stop at WR in conjunction with another FReep, good time with good people for a good cause.

Taxman, Last time I saw you, you were in your skives, has your dress standard improved?

Hi Troop, it’s nice to see old FRiends. You already know what all those Friday nights meant to me. I don’t think I missed many AARs. It was like being there in spirit. So, I can imagine how much it meant to the wounded warriors. I’m sure that no words can express how much you guys helped the moral of those wounded souls in that hospital. I think now about the place they are being taken at Bethesda. Who is there to cheer them on? My deep regret is that I never could find a way to get to D.C. to stand with you. Thank you all for your Friday sacrifices for those who deserved them. God bless you all.

I think the week we had the huge crowd and set up the tents was one to remember. We made so many new friends that night and met people we had only known on this site!

Everytime the bus stopped right in the road and turned on the lights was a tear-jerking experience.

Jim, It was a very special night when you rolled out there to be with us!

I have seen you in Washington many times over the years and know that I am a better person because of your “Free Republic”.

Thank you for the wonderful people, and many friends, I have met at these events.

No longer available - bummer.

The “dcpw” is for DC Protest Warrior. This is a group that plays head games with the moonbats. When the moonbats march in protest, they jump in front of the protestors’ march holding signs like “Clueless Morons Marching”.

Great picture. President Bush recently did a bike ride with our wounded warriors. No fan fare, no self adulation, no “I” or “me”.

You are welcome from the DC Chapter for the kudos. You may not have been able to attend any WR Rallies but your support of our wounded warriors continues is so many other ways. Thank you.

But I suspect that the one visit will be with you forever. Thank you for standing with the DC Chapter.

The first several months after WR closed, I had an empty feeling on Friday nights. And when talking to FReepers about just about anything, it seems WR is always somewhere in the conversation.

You are welcome from the DC Chapter.

It is very satisfying when someone lets us know how much good we did at Walter Reed, that we made a difference. That is the reason for this thread, a lot of patriots who were at WR or reading the weekly reports need to know that we made a difference.

I have to admit that there were a couple of times, especially on those very cold nights, that I would briefly wonder if we are making a difference. Then a car load of cheering wounded warriors, hanging out the windows, would drive into WR whooping it up for our support. Or one would come out in his wheel chair and go around to all four corners thanking each and every one of us. Or the parents of a wounded warrior doing the same. This would remind me why we are there and I proudly went on.

And thank you for your weekly comments. The comments and knowing that you really cared about what we were doing also helped us stand proud.

[Mr] T

Yep, still get that warm and fuzzy feeling thinking about WR. And to be honest, there are too many great nights to really pick out one or two.

It was great to meet a FReeper who was only briefly in DC but still made time to join us.

i only made it for 4 Fridays over the years and each time was blessed by the presence of wonderful people and a great cause. The distance & care of my mom limited my participation but those who were faithful have my thanks and appreciation. The AAR were something I looked forward toward viewing each week. New faces joined the cause and the “old faithfuls plugging along. Photographers always are special to me as you archive the events. I tried to help when I was in town but there were many others who weekly did this task. God bless you all & God bless the men & women who were at Walter Reed over the years & “remembered”.

Snoopy and I attended just a few FReeps at Walter Reed. But the memories are many.

DC Chapter, thanks for your steadfastness!

For the DC Chapter, thank you for your kind words. The AARs were probably the best way to let FReepers participate. Your’s and others support and comments was one of the things that made WR memorable.

The “newbies” at WR were extremely welcomed. 6 1/4 years is a long time and we needed the new faces.

"... just a few FReeps at Walter Reed"

But you were one of those who came from a far. We appreciate every time you stood with us. Yep, standing at Walter Reed was impressionable whether one stood once, a few, or many. Thanks for being there for our wounded warriors. [Mr] T

Have we yet mentioned the troops who struggled to get out to thank us? How about the ones who watched from the Hospital and got their family to bring them out to thank us?

I often had to walk away to wipe away the blurry vision from realizing the sacrifice these wonderful young men made for my safe life!

These nights have renewed my service, in my own area, during the rest of the year. I went to the recruiting center on Armed Forces Day again this year. All the faces had changed but they were aware I had come before and welcomed me again. Cupcakes and brownies are always appreciated by the young and THIN folks there!

Yes, somewhere in this AAR I had mentioned about the wounded warriors or their parents coming out to thank us. You are right, their trips to the gates were blurry eyed moments.

Good deal on your visit to the recruiters. Cupcakes and brownies, sounds yummie. Thanks. We also did Recruiter Appreciation again this year. A client of mine donated some big bucks to the DC Chapter so we were also able to do the DC recruiter’s office. Watch for Kburi’s AAR.
