Most likely the guy to cut down the last tree was thinking....
“Those sob’s who burned my canoe are sure going to be sorry when I finish this canoe and then row over and burn down their canoes!”
After the trees were gone and deep sea fishing wasn't an option - they turned to bird eggs on high cliffs and “the Cult of the Birdman”. The guy who could climb the cliffs and get the eggs was not only a culinary hero - but a religious icon.

I suppose they sent canoes out and eventually none returned. Easter Island was an island too far!

I was telling my wife the other day that if the guy from Ancient Aliens had kids with the blond (Anne Burrell) from the Food network , that they would look like the Centaurians from Babylon Five.

Time to look then at the lost Andean world of Astronomy, for which they have never been given credit but remains preserved in the arrangement of the calendar wall and in the icons on the Gate of the Sun at Tiwanaku, a soli-lunar calendar surpassing in sophistication anything found elsewhere in the ancient world. The actual calendar is not the Gate of the Sun but the wall with 11 pillars behind it.
The 11 small icons on the freize of the Gate of the Sun represent these 11 pillars and throughout the year the sun sets over the pillars dividing the year into 20 months of 18 days.
Makes one wonder if the Moai lined up on the platform, and facing inland, didn't also serve a similar function.

Could very well be. IIRC, those Moai were re-erected on that platform in modern times. They may not now be in their original positions...
That sequence of the Tihuancu pillars is definitely impressive!

I wonder what the guy who chopped down the last tree was thinking? "That's it! I'm moving to Haiti."

Libra was originally "the claws of the scorpion', rather than a separate constellation.
Which is where you get a name like Zuben Elgenubi.....
Sincere thanks for your knowledgeable ping.
