A year after an attack by ultraconservative Muslims raised the spectre of a wave of religious strife in Egypt, the Christian churches in Cairos Imbaba district have been repaired, with sturdy wooden rafters, fresh paint and portraits of the Virgin Mary and Jesus ready to be hung anew. But the deep wounds from those attacks and ensuing clashes, which left 12 dead, cannot be painted over.
Coptic Christians, whose forefathers lived in Egypt before the arrival of Islam, had hoped that the 2011 uprising that ousted authoritarian President Hosni Mubarak would give them equal rights.
Instead, things have worsened. Egypts Christians have been the victims of threats and dramatic violence, and they fear the ascendance of political Islam.

If I were a Coptic Christian, I would get the Hell out of there!
I fear the muslims in this country, and soetoro’s going nuclear if he even perceives loss.
Thanks Milagros.
2000 years in Egypt and Egyptian Christians are supposed to “get the hell out of there”?
And go where exactly?
I thought the Mohammedans would become peace loving dolphin savers once Obama got them their democratic revolution. How did Bush outwit him in Egypt?
LOL... ReallY? What could've ever given them that idea?
This is such a load of crap spoon fed to us by the obomba's ministry of propaganda. LOL...
Most do not have the means to do it. They are the native indigenous of Egypt. NOT The Arab-Muslim invaders!!!
I agree with you. But many of these long-oppressed-victims of Islamic-Arab persecution really started to believe -at that time- it was about “freedom.”
If I were a leader of the Copts, I’d take my people to the Sinai, just South of Eilat, and declare an independant Coptic state there. If I were Israel, I would form an understanding with the head Copt that while I won’t immediately recognize Coptia, I will have arms, food and water ready for the Copts, as well as building supplies, all to be quietly delivered. In the event of an Egyptian invasion of the Sinai, I will recognize Coptia and come to the aid of this ally, with the understanding that after the war, they will keep the Bedouins from smuggling drugs and arms through the Sinai.
Bush is tricky./s
Obama is bringing in 80,000 Muslims. Why not the Coptic Christians?
"...who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavoring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time;...that it is time enough for the rightful purposes of civil government, for its officers to interfere when principles break out into overt acts against peace and good order; and finally, that truth is great and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them. ""I HAVE SWORN UPON THE ALTAR OF GOD ETERNAL HOSTILITY TO EVERY FORM OF TYRANNY OVER THE MIND OF MAN"--The Virginia Act For Establishing Religious Freedom
--Thomas Jefferson, 1786
Gee, what would make them fear that?
Guess Coptics don’t read The New York Times.
As well they should. May God protect them.
The Egyptian folks who truly want freedom should realize: What you do onto the Coptic Christians, that you do onto me.
Come to America, brother and sissters in the Lord!
Amen.
I wouldnt, on the grounds that that is exactly what the radical muslims WANT me to do.
