Dewhurst answers Palin with Huckabee, who stresses anti-abortion bills

Within about 90 minutes of Sarah Palin's endorsement of Texas Senate insurgent Ted Cruz on Thursday, rival David Dewhurst answered with a new TV spot in which former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee again vouches for the lieutenant governor and stresses his anti-abortion record.

In the 30-second ad, called "Values," Huckabee speaks to camera about the need to "turn our culture around." Then, as Dewhurst is shown walking outdoors with his wife Patricia, stepdaughter Carolyn and a horse, Huckabee intones:

"David's conservative leadership helped Texas pass more pro-life legislation than any state in America." At the bottom of the screen, a chyron mentions Dewhurst's endorsements by Texas Right to Life and the Texas Alliance for Life.

The Hucksters endorsement of Dewhurst should make the decision easy for Texas conservatives. Vote for Ted Cruz.

Sent campaign donation to Ted Cruz this morning. We don’t need another KBH fiasco in DC!

Heard him on Joe Pags yesterday on WOAI. I got the impression he was spitting out his “proven record of” talking points as fast as he could. Turned me off a bit, as did his series of ads touting his dad’s experiences in Cuba as somehow making Cruz a better candidate. OTOH, I think Dewhurst has been in Texas politics way too long.

And, of course, Sarah’s opinion goes a long way with me (see tag).

My problem with Dewhurst isn’t over abortion. My problem with Dewhurst was his killing of the bills in the Texas legislature pertaining to illegal immigration and enforcement.

Dewhurst is a moderate RINO who wanted to raise taxes in Texas rather than reduce spending to balance the budget. Why would we send a man like that to washington?

it would be like employing a serial arsonist in a match factory!

I’m voting for Cruz. Dewhurst is a RINO. I’m encouraging my family to do the same.

On another note, Leppert recently picked up the endorsement of Troy Aikman.

Just proves what they are saying repeated concussions in the NFL.

It makes you endorse idiots.

In with the new & out with the old. I’m tired of the old established politicians. Go Cruz!

Actually Dewhurst has not been in Texas politics that long. He is not a career politician, never ran for public office until he was fifty-three years old, after making it in business.

He is a proven conservative and we are lucky to have him. Cruz might be conservative but he has never proven it in an elective office where you have to show yourself by engaging in the legislative and budgeting process and casting votes.

He is a proven conservative and we are lucky to have him.”

My opinion - Dewhurst works behind the scenes and is responsible for our having Strauss as Senate leader. In his current position he is able to wield a great deal of power and certainly has pushed legislation which moves Texas further left than true Conservatives want to be. There is also evidence that Dewhurst’s staff is the source of not totally truthful comments about Cruz. Texas deserves at least one Conservative Senator - we have a chance to replace RINO Kay Bailey in November by voting for Cruz. Then in 2014 Cornyn needs to go.

1. Joe Strauss is not the Senate leader. He is Speaker of the House.
2. What leftist legislation in Texas has Dewhurst ever pushed? None!
3. What untruthful comments are you talking of? I’ve heard of no untruthful comments about Cruz.
4. Nothing against Cruz - but there’s nothing unconservative about Dewhurst. And Dewhurst has far more Texas time and experience, has military service, private business experience, legislative, budget, and leadership experience, all of which Cruz lacks.
5. How many more Harvard Lawyers can this nation take in the United States Senate? I just wish Cruz’ first crack at elective office was a little less ambitious than a U.S. Senate seat. Cruz might be conservative, I know Dewhurst is conservative.
