California needs huge investment to create jobs
Sacramento Bee ^ | 5/8/12 | Dan Walters

California is struggling to emerge from the worst recession since the Great Depression and has more than 2 million unemployed workers, plus countless others who have given up seeking work out of frustration and/or have fled to other states.

Clearly the state needs many billions of dollars in job-creating investment. But its attractiveness to that investment is, to say the least, problematic, given its relatively high tax burden, its dense regulatory structure, its deficiencies in education, transportation and water supply, and its tangled government finances.

Chief Executive magazine's most recent survey of corporate leaders finds that California ranks dead last among the states in business climate for the eighth straight year.

Given that, one might think that Gov. Jerry Brown and other political figures would place improving the state's investment climate at the top of their agendas. But they may be making California less competitive.

Brown's tax increase ballot measure, for instance, would sharply increase state income taxes on those at the top of the economic pecking order. And Brown and other politicians are fiddling around with corporate taxation, aiming to increase taxation of out-of-state corporations by about a billion dollars a year.

As a result of the 2010 elections, Democrats are firmly in control in California.

The Democrats have comfortable majorities in both the State Assembly and State Senate.

Every single elected constitutional officer, from governor on down, is a Democrat.

Whatever happens in California, Democrats are in charge. Democrats own the state. If liberal Democrat solutions to California problems are the answer, Democrats can implement them. They have no need to compromise or work with Republicans on anything. They are in a position to put Democrat solutions to California’s problems in place.

My goodness Dan, why is it you are only telling us this now, not 10 years ago?

Could it be that you're a MSM leftie sycophant that thought big Rat government in California was a great thing and now you're grasping to try to rescue your long gone credibility, relevance, and circulation????

So, this means Obama needs to send a lot of money to California that will be distributed amongst union members. Have I got that right?

I know what you mean. I left CA back when I still had a chance. I don't miss it at all. In fact, most of my close friend moved out as well. No company could pay me enough for me move back.

Only liberals can take what was was one of the largest economies in the world, located in one of the most beautiful states in teh union...and trash it.

Of course, trashing things is indeed the only accomplishment of the left.

umm, isn’t “capitalism” and “individual freedom” all about private individuals chosing to use their money time and ingenuity to make investments that create new jobs?

(crickets)

So instead of this, Moonbeam wants to take people’s money and “invest it” and “create jobs”

Liberals think dipping water out of the deep end of the pool and dumping it into the shallow end of the pool will fill up the pool with more water.

The country club Democrats are happy. There’s fewer cars getting in their way. They will try to make the beaches their own. All they need is some minimum wage workers to cut their grass and take care of their brats. The roads will hold up for another twenty years. They have exactly what they want. The non-country club Democrats are too stupid to know it.

The morons in kalifornia should take a look at he problem if they want to solve the problem or openly push their agenda and show their complete disengagement form reality. Business and people are leaving California in droves. Why would that be? Taxes mainly and poor business environment. There is not a source of money big enough to push their socialist/ communist agenda without going bankrupt.
