Connie Mack position changes on domestic drilling
Tampa Bay - St. Petersburg Times ^ | April 30, 2012 | Amy Sherman, PoliticFact

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, running in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, has been urging the public to sign his petition calling for the Keystone XL Pipeline as part of his efforts to promote more domestic drilling.

"I have always said that I would be for drilling," Mack said at an event this month promoting the petition. "But I think that's an issue the state should have a say in — in determining how far it's going to be off the coast of Florida. We ought to allow the state to have a say in that decision."

Mack campaign spokesman David James acknowledged that Mack's views have "evolved" on drilling.

Mack has supported drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and favors building the Keystone XL pipeline, James said in a statement. "At the same time there's no dispute that Connie has always wanted to make certain that we protect Florida's shores. That hasn't changed. But four years ago, in the summer of 2008, Connie announced that his position with respect to drilling off Florida's coast evolved as our national energy security needs changed, too."

In 2012, Florida's congressional delegation remains split on more drilling off the coast of Florida. "We have never gotten back to a unified front of opposition against expanding drilling," Ferrulo said.

Mack said, "I have always said that I would be for drilling." But that misrepresents his actual record on a high-profile state issue. In 2005, he repeatedly said he was against allowing drilling closer to Florida's shores......

Note to squishy pandering RINO Mack

Beyond a certain perimeter (I defer to law concerning the sea bed and state/national territorial boundaries) offshore drilling is nor a state’s perogative to control

Offshore drilling is a national, not a state, strategic resource

"Drill baby drill"

The US is awash in oil, demand for gasoline peaked in 2007 and continues to fall, gasoline and diesel exports are at record levels.

Export baby export!

[“You know, America has proven but untapped supplies of natural gas, of oil, of coal. America’s the Saudi Arabia of coal,” [Perry] said.

“But President Obama and… the Environmental Protection Agency — won’t allow American businesses and American labor to draw on even a fraction of this domestic energy from reserves on government-owned land.”

He said now was the “time to end the over-regulation, excess litigation, and bureaucratic intimidation.”

“Let’s get back to what works to get America working again: Make what Americans buy, buy what Americans make and sell it to the world,” he added.] — Oct 14, 2011

I know what the republican rhetoric is but the rhetoric doesn't match the reality

If you think the big Koch Brothers are going to sell you gasoline at $2.50/gal you are crazier than hell.

Its a world market and they will export it to China. Gasoline consumers in China and India are pricing US consumers out of the market.

Ben, are the Koch Brothers even involved in oil? You have been here since 1998, so I have to assume a lefty has hacked your account.

Only hard lefties talk about the Koch bros.

I think with wide open drilling and building of refineries by axing most regulations and banning the enviro wacko blocking law suits, we can get gasoline back down to $1.50 per gallon.

I think most businesses would want and appreciate that because gasoline in the fuel of our economy and low prices fire up that engine. Oil companies are now diversified. Free market Oil companies want a vibrant economy. Gas prices would plummet, if we get the government out of the way.

Connie Mack is out conning the public again. This time, they are aware of his RINO record.

This article in a notorious collectivist rag is merely the Regime’s attempt to keep another “fellow traveler” commie in office.

Sorry, Connie! We are on to your “con”.

The Big Koch Brothers are diversified but they are large in refining, or as they say in the oil industry, "Midstream". Of course you know that thet O&G industry is divided into upstream, midstream, and downstream.

They are also very well positioned in corn alcohol, as are others in midstream.

I don't know what it is about a lot of republicans and freepers, but they can't seem to grasp the concept of a world market.

You use $1.50/gallon as a target price. Do you recall that when the economy collapsed the price of oil fell to around $44/barrel and gasoline was around $2.40-$2.55, depending on where you were located.

If you want cheap gas you need to talk, talk, talk the economy down, down, down and maybe it will collapse again.

Well, like duh, man. No I didn't.

But it is a lot better than it was in Feb 2008 when Bush began secretly loaning the money to the banks and implementing his stimulus. or latter in 2008 when Bush asked for and Congress gave him the TARP money, or in 2009 when the economy, hit the bottom

I don't know what it is about people who harp on the world market nonsense. When you have some countries in the world with the equivalent of $9 or $10 dollar per gal gas and others in the big Oil producing countries paying less than the equivalent of 50 cents per gallon, it shoot the whole "Global Price we have no controoooollllll!!!!!" to shreds.

We need more of our own refineries and more cheap, domestic oil. Cut out the transportation price, the tariff prices leaving the foreign country and the tariff prices entering our country, cut out the foreign bribes that have to be paid, and cut out most of the domestic regulations - including all the crazy seasonal formulas and the required ethanol amounts, then you will see really low prices regardless of what the international price per barrel is.

Drill Baby Drill, Keep a lot and Export Baby Export. That is all good.

Why not sell our oil to help lower our trade deficit? As much oil as we have, we shouldn't be importing any except to refine it and export it back out.

There is a lot of money to be made in refining the crude product. As a nation, lets take it! It means good jobs and a chance to rebuild our national treasury.

We really need to cap off the empty Leftist Politician well heads this November.
