One hears a lot of noise these days in and out of the Capitol about "the 1 percent" those at the top of the income pecking order and the moral imperative to levy higher taxes on them to support public services.
The narrative from left-wing activists and their political allies is that those at the top have rapaciously gathered more wealth while the poor get poorer and those in the middle class struggle to keep afloat.
We'll hear a lot more in the coming months because Gov. Jerry Brown and his fellow Democrats in the Legislature are beating the drums for a ballot measure that would raise income taxes on high-income Californians by about $8 billion a year to narrow the state budget deficit.
Although the higher taxes would kick in at $250,000 in taxable income, they've dubbed it a "millionaires' tax" and at one point, Brown defended the label by opining that someone who makes a quarter-million a year would become a millionaire in four years.
He later backed away from that ridiculous assertion. Nevertheless, the die is cast for class warfare in California this year. . . .

This shows the mentality of our politicians. Tax someone higher because they might become a millionaire? That’s like taxing someone on their house at a higher rate because they may turn an office into another bedroom someday. These people are idiots and that’s why people don’t want to pay higher taxes.
We wouldn’t mind paying higher taxes if it were used to help our country. But......not until we get rid of most regulations and the wastefull spending and stop sending our tax money to the PA and other countries.
The hell you say.
Somebody ping Warren Buffett. There'll be hell to pay.
No. Maybe Warren is not the best person to ping. At least not until he pays that billion dollars in back taxes he owes.
Okay. Jeffrey Immelt. Somebody ping Jeffrey Immelt. He'll make sure those greedy bas.....no....wait......Immelt headed up a company that made billions of dollars last year but somehow ended up paying zero income taxes.
Okay. I got it. Timothy Geithner. If anybody has the balls to go after......ahhhhh....forgit it.
How strange that the LIAR in the WH speaks of taxing the rich, and then he turns around and goes to a $35,000 a plate FUNDRAISER.
He is protecting the rich and making sure the middleclass suffers. I don’t see him going after the movie or sports industries who pay morons millions for doing NOTHING.
The only thing that obama has accomplished is setting a world record for the most lies told in speeches.
We are no longer individuals working to create wealth and happiness, we are now part of the whole donating to that entity in hope that it will choose to make our lives better.
Democrats don’t want people to succeed without their “help”. They need the people to be struggling so they can offer programs and money to people so they can maintain their power. Buffett and other Rich Democrats don’t care because they have already made there money and are in the “elite”.
Instead of pointing the finger at the rich and dividing this country they should just quit spending all our money.
They are not spending the money wisely only to get re-elected.
Democrats want to control our lives.
Yeah. The ones they like. That's "Liberalism" for you.
That's why "Liberals" (there's nothing liberal about these people) LOVE to clutter the legal system with draconian laws and so many that they can not possibly be enforced. They can enforce them selectively. If they like you, you get off with a wink. If they don't, they confiscate everything you have and bury you under the jail.
Witness California: The "Liberal" habit of considering a problem solved if some kind of legislation concerning it is passed, unconcerned with unenforceability, is only part of the strategy.
And note that equal protection under the law is no more a "Liberal" consideration than is truth for its own sake.
These people are guided by victim and predator categories, and to them the law is all about reward and revenge.
Probably sees a personal credibility crisis when California collapses under all the DemoRats he's spoken for and supported all these years.
I got news Dan, just like the Suck Bee, your credibility is gone forever, no weaseling at the last will make you look good.
In 2013 California will see a mass exodus of people because of taxes on everybody.
The state is broke and still spending on entitlements, doom will be a move up for the state.
