It’s my understanding that small family owned businesses, and family farms, have been mostly exempted from the various labor laws. So now we’re seeing an attack on family farms by Obama???? For what purpose? To “protect” children on farms from having to do certain chores? To create yet another bureaucracy to enforce new regulations?

What the heck?

Every day, it becomes more apparent just how liberal Obama really is.

One important thing that kids learn from working on the family farm and ranches is.....independence. This is what those in government fear the most. Have a politician try and make political changes in rural America.

Obama could save time - jump ahead to collective farms and mass starvation...

Some legal eagle, help me out here.

Is there a constitutional issue?

What gives the Feds the right to tell parents on farms that their children can’t help out?

The children are not employees, in the workforce.

Same thing if you have your child help you do things on a non-farm. They aren’t an employee of yours.

Somebody help with this.

I haven’t heard it discussed from a legal perspective.

I hate it when the writer gives up and says, “those days are over”.

The days of children helping on the farm are over, because of Obama??

Come on people, don’t just role over and die!!

The government has already about destroyed our children’s hopes. Child labor laws have kept kids (14, 15, 16) years old from working other than on family owned business. So what do they do if not involved in sports? Walk the streets, hang out, making themselves prime targets for drugs and drug dealers. I have a college student grandson that can’t get a job anywhere but a hamburger joint because he is only 17. No one will hire him or others his age because of all the govt. rules. Disgusting at best and criminal at worst. Now they want to do the same thing to farm kids.

Whatever their motive in this nonsense, if it becomes even more difficult for the family farm to operate and be profitable, more will sell out to corporate interest. Then the big corporate farms will seek cheap labor and just where might they find the cheap labor they will need?

“...for youth who work on farms and ranches on the Senate floor.”

Now I know there’s a lot of manure there and a bunch of folks that are all hat and no cattle, but I had no idea they had whole farms and ranches on the Senate floor!

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking:  What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?  Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?  The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Does anyone know the bill name? Was going to write my senators, Durbin and Kirk, and my US rep, Tim Johnson on this.

Hopefully we can stop it.

I remember sitting on a small tractor for my old man to teach me how to drive. I couldn’t push the clutch in, as I was still too small to push it to the ground. My Dad simply said that we would have to wait until next year to try. I was probably 7. I grew up in tractors working for the family farm. I am the father of all girls, the oldest being 4, but I make it a point to take them to the farm all the time, and I look forward to all three of my girls helping their Grandpa.

President Obama may want to choose his fights more wisely, farmers are a stubborn bunch.

The EPA goes after farmers for DUST.
The DOL goes after farmers for KIDS.

Do I sense a bit of DICTATORIAL Power being waged against this Country by its own Government?

Since this monster raised its head, one of many on the liberal beast, I can’t help but think, who is going to enforce this law? Does anyone think that a rural county sheriff is going to go around telling people they can’t have their children working? Most have the sense to know better, and the ones that don’t will learn quickly the errors of their ways.

I honestly believe that this law/intrusion/overstepping of authority and common sense is going to be the spark that finally lights a fire that burns back the encroaching weeds of liberal inspired federalism.

Most folks are missing the real point here. I don't think is is so much the prohibition, they are camouflaging going after the rural and farm kids he can not reach any other way.

“The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.”

Anyone care to guess what the 90 hours of “federal government training” will contain?

Perhaps something along the lines of what is in this?

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," he said Wednesday. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

In the >>> EXACT <<< same PUBLIC statement he said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of mandatory service a year for middle school and high school students.

He is demanding mandatory control of the kids. Only now the monster is going after the rural and farm kids he can not reach any other way.

With the power grab at family farms, he will make himself the all powerful, all knowing fed-gov the ultimate authority, placing himself above the parents.

.

This is nothing short of an attack on our values and traditions. My husband leads the 4-H in our town & I’m sure this will affect that, as well. The left probably views this as another way to antagonize the red states.
