A racially charged beating of a white Alabama man by a throng of African-Americans is not being investigated as a hate crime, despite one witness' claim that she heard an assailant exclaim: "Now that's justice for Trayvon."
Matthew Owens, of Mobile, Ala., was assaulted with baseball bats, paint cans and other weapons at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday after telling a group of children to stop playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive, according to Ashley Rains, public information officer for the Mobile Police Department.
After the children left the area, a group of adults armed with weapons returned and confronted Owens, 40, in his front yard, where he was assaulted. Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, told WKRG she witnessed the attack and that there were as many as 20 assailants. Parker said she overheard one of them say, "Now that's justice for Trayvon."
Asked if the incident was being investigated as a hate crime, Rains replied: "No, it's not. It's being investigated as an assault."

I'd like to see these laws challenged on 14th Amendment grounds, since it's obviously that they're not being applied equally.

I guess the only thing you could do is fire a round off in the air and hope like hell they run. Otherwise are we supposed to look out the window and watch someone get beaten to death? I know in Texas if someone is breaking into your neighbor’s house you can use deadly force. It was done a few years ago and the old man who killed two Mexicans was not charged. So I’m sure you could use deadly force if your neighbor was being killed. Just make sure you got plenty of ammo and be prepared to stand 24 hour guard as long as you live there. Sad situation, huh.
I heard on Laura Ingraham’s show today that neighbors saw this happen but are afraid to give any details to the police. They think if they do that they will be next in line for a beating.
I’d tell everything and carry a gun. Of course if I saw it happening there would probably be several dead youths.

Even as we speak I know “60 Minutes” has called back Mike Wallace from the dead for a special presentation on how the “Negroes Righteously Sacrificed and Assaulted Numerous Caucasians in Their Quest for Well Deserved Reparations”, (Monetarily of course)
It’s a terribly sad situation, Terry.
I believe that under stand your ground laws one could use deadly force in that situation because another person’s life is in clear danger, but I don’t want to test my freedom and financial well being considering our current administration.
Furthermore, if one did fire on them, no doubt some would survive, they would sue, and they would likely seek revenge.
Also, firing a round or two into the air could kill an innocent person, and so could firing into the ground, because occassionally a bullet can ricochet off the ground instead of penetrating it.
The only course of action I can see at this time is to avoid black people at all costs.
Race relations are not only damaged now, they are poisoned.
I wonder if a local prosecutor can ‘refer’ a case for possible “hate crime” charges. Those would be federal charges that require a federal prosecutor to charge. Eric Holder is not going to bring a case against “his people.” But then even Republican A-G’s failed to bring cases in the past.

Bet on racism accusations being made against him for that.
He must have "dissed" the neighborhood kids playing baskeball on his street thereby hurting their self-esteem. That calls for an 'automatic' beat down. Trayvon attempted to deliver one, he just picked the wrong guy. This crowd found a softer target.

Yes, if 20 whites beat on a black, no matter for what reason, it would be considered a hate crime, even if no words were said. But if the black persons sister said one of the attackers said something racist, would we believe her? Or disregard what she says because she was his sister?
Two things....one, I’ve got a car I want to sell and I’m afraid to put a “for sale” sign on the car. All I’d be doing is inviting a home invasion.
Several years ago I was trying to sell a house for a builder. It was the last house for sell on the cul de sac. On weekends a bunch of blacks would set up a portable goal and be in front of the house playing b-ball. There was no way you were going to sell that house. I don’t know if they ever sold it.
