Ah, yes... when one can’t understand the motives of another, one turns to mindless derision.. of course after traveling past the milepost of disbelief.

well some founding fathers have warned us about foreign entanglements...seems like lunacy to give money to israel and israels enemies

It is. But that's not what this is about.

"Palaeoconservatives" and the "Old Right" are not just opposed to foreign aid to Israel. They are actively hostile to Israel. They regard Israel as world headquarters for a "Zionist" plot to rule the world.

This may sound outlandish, but it isn't just Nazis who believe such a thing. Until a few decades ago there were perfectly "mainstream" people who believed this, and perhaps there are many who still do. They regard Judaism's rejection of chr*stianity's "spiritual messiah" and their anticipation of a literal messiah as something sinister and attribute all the actions of practically all Jews--no matter where on the political spectrum they are--to this "Talmudic plot."

That I why I won't ever vote for a "palaeocon" or "Old Rightist" unless he/she disavows this completely. Israel's G-d is the True G-d. All other "gxds" are false and to worship them is to be guilty of idolatry.

I take a very negative attitude towards idolatry. But nothing like as negative an attitude as G-d takes.

The establishment gop in Va sandbagged Ollie. I went to the debate at Hampden Sydney College. It was something to see! Robb fled out the side door with a bunch of college guys chasing him..lol
But remember..Goode was crazy for Gov Wilder and we KNOW Gov Wilder was pro choice and anti guns. I still want to know in detail what cuts Goode wants to make to the defense dept.
I know the words “Constitution Party” is alluring but better think long and hard about the person running on that ticket.
Depiste Coleman not backing Ollie..as I said alot of the Virginia establishment didn’t but check out Colemans record..I really liked him otherwise and at least he didnt back Wilder

“That’s (3rd party) the sign of a committed conservative and not one who weakens at the first sign of fear”

The problem isn’t that Coleman didn’t back Col. North, it is that he ran 3rd party and took the key votes that would’ve gone to North. Robb was toast otherwise. Frankly, I’m glad Coleman never won the Governorship given his behavior. Having Wilder as Governor & Robb in the Senate for that period allowed their ugly feud to be as public as possible, weakening Robb. There’s also a good chance that Coleman as Governor would never have been succeeded by George Allen.

Goode tried to keep the VA Democrats from becoming an all moonbat party and also forced them to agree to power-sharing when they reached parity in the State Senate. Even as a Democrat, by GOP standards, he was a good legislator. In a way, it’s too bad he never got the chance to be VA Governor.

As I stated, I do not expect Goode to embrace the nutty neo-isolationist Ron Paul stuff and that anything related to Defense to be a responsible Conservative stance. His website position isn’t explicit beyond this:

“National Defense: We need a strong national defense. However, reckless federal spending which has given us a deficit in excess of one trillion dollars necessitates cutting defense spending. We must now come home from Afghanistan and reduce our expenditures around the globe.”

You changed the words I was responding to....I’m with Newt until the end...if he isn’t on the ticket, its 3rd party for me.

That IS a committed conservative!

I was there! it wasn’t just Coleman as he ran too and so did Robb and Wilder. You have to know that Nancy Reagan also went after North when he ran for senate. It hurt. It was a close election. Warner wanted Coleman. Many did.
The Virginia republican establishment was not behind North. I went to the debate at Hampden Sydney..the kids loved Ollie but the big time old names such as John Warner didnt.
Virginia had a good governor..George Allen.
Hate to be the barer of bad news to you but Goode will never be president.

I was also following the race probably more closely than the two in my own state and the one in MA. I felt at the time Col. North was too controversial and preferred Jim Miller in the primary. In hindsight, I was buying too much into the establishment mantra and it would take a few more years to become more informed on their true goals. Today, I wouldn’t have hesistated to back North and putting more balls-to-the-walls types in DC.

I’m aware of how ugly it got with the establishment sandbagging North. Warner pulled the same stunt with Mike Farris in the ‘93 Lt Governor’s race, who would’ve been an excellent Governor and successor to George Allen.

I also remember the 4-way race when Gov. Wilder got in as an Indy based on his visceral dislike for Robb, but the Dems were able to have a “Come to Jesus” meeting with Wilder to persuade him to get out. Another example of GOP establishment stupidity that it would rather lose to a Democrat than have a Conservative win.

I’m also under no fantasy that Congressman Goode can win a general election (though by demographics on ideology, he should). This is about having a choice that Conservatives don’t have to submit to a false set of options between a Marxist Democrat and a Socialist RINO. The message is aimed squarely at the GOP... telling them they learned nothing from 2008. McCain was the final straw. I and many others will not be catching a ride on the SS Titanic Willard.

Will have to tell you the story of Warner and a young and rising star by the name of Obenshein who ran for senator against John. I dare not post it in public but the long time Virginia republicans know the story and the truth. I did meet Warner and Elizabeth and Coleman, Mike Farris, Joe Canada, Ollie North, George Landrith, George Allen, Jim Miller and many others. Could tell you some stories about Va politics

I know the story about Dick Obenshain. Had he lived, he might’ve ended up as President. A dreadful loss not only for Virginia, but for the country and the Conservative cause.

To me...making sure Obama is not reelected is the most committed conservative action.
