South Carolina Tea Party Leader Says She Doesn’t Know Anyone ‘That Does Not Despise Mitt Romney’

It’s no secret that Mitt Romney isn’t exactly a darling of the Tea Party, but Karen Martin, the head of the Spartanburg County, S.C., chapter, did not mince words when speaking to NPR’s Frank James about just how little they care for him.

“There’s no Tea Partier that I talk to in the state or nationally that would want to promote Romney,” Martin said. “Other than the people that have come out publicly and endorsed Mitt Romney and the people left over from his 2008 campaign, I do not personally know anyone that does not despise Mitt Romney and doesn’t hate the idea of him being our nominee.”

A combination of Romneycare, flip-flops on issues, and a perceived slight of the Tea Party by Romney have combined to make him incredibly unpopular within the movement. Martin said that her group felt “betrayed” by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a Tea Party favorite, when she endorsed Romney last year.

I’m neither an elite nor a Democrat. But I’m going to support Romney. This woman’s spiel tells me more about her than about him.

Once again we are being played. Romney cannot win unless a whole lot of people wake up and see what a threat THE GREAT PRETENDER is. It looks just like Dole in 1996. We have DEM who looks weak and a press that covers for him and a candidate that doesn’t inspire interest. And even if he wins it will be like electing McCain or worse. We need to defeat Obama!

I disagree. Party uber alles whores, the senile who can only see the suit and his fellow cultists are also enamoured of Bishop Willard.

The man governed as a socialist scumbag. Who could like him other than a liberal socialist democrat?

He's an enemy of conservatives everywhere.

If he's permitted to be the nominee, he'll be the end of the GOP as a viable party.

The GOP will deserve it's end if that happens.

Everybody is lying to her. If everyone despises Romney then why is he winning. I like Newt, but I know he cannot win therefore if Romney is it then I will vote for him because the alternative will be devastating.

If obama is reelected the fault lies at the feet of the GOP. Both parties are driving us toward socialism, it’s just that one party is driving faster than the other. If obama is reelected because of a Romney nomination we can have our revolution, peaceful or otherwise, and I can fight the war for my children. At three years old and seven months old, my children will have to fight the war if Romney is elected. I’d rather fight for them.

Romney is in BIG trouble down South. Southern conservatives hate him, but he needs enough of them to show up to cancel out a huge black vote.

“Southern conservatives hate him, but he needs enough of them to show up to cancel out a huge black vote.”

See my tagline, paraphrased from the Whitewashed Jackass’ own mouth. This peckerwood is -not- going to vote for Bishop Willard, and I have voted for a LOT of GOP POTUS candidates I heartily disliked.

It must be lonely in your private little naive world. I will vote for Romney is a second are you that hate full to realize she is but 1 person in 1 county of 1 small state?

Really you need to rethink your thoughts. We have put in place a tea party house. Next step is a tea party Senate. Then any GOP person as a President....

In judging Tea Party Activists remember we never trash a place we demonstrate at we even bring our children. As to fighting America's wars GD right my kids may have to fight a war or 2.........My dad did I did my oldest son did and his oldest son did now my nephews oldest son is in the Sand Box gassing aircraft and I am damn proud of him and the American Fighting Man and Woman..In closing my wife is a retired Lt Col and I am a ret TSgt SAC Trained Killer......

Our choice is a socialist that loves to work and a socialist that hates to work. Not sure which is worse...

In my mind, Romney is nothing more than Obama lite. In the issues that matter to me, there is not enough of a difference between the two.

Therefore, electing Romney will be WORSE than re-electing Obama. As a Rino / dem lite, Romney will destroy the GOP by forcing the conservatives to vote against his agenda.

The enemy is not Obama, the enemy is LIBERALISM and it is fought with CONSERVATIONISM, not lib lite.

If Romney is the GOP’s nomination, I will not vote for him, I will not work for him and I will encourage others to not vote for him. The GOP elite need to learn that they can not win an election without the base. Time for the GOP to decide if they are going to be a conservative party or a dem lite party.

No one is lying to her. I have noticed how much pressure the media (including FOX ) has been putting on all of Romney’s opposition. It is no coincidence that the RNC pressed for Ryan endorsement ( which he didn’t seem very enthusiastic about ) right before the primary. It is no coincidence that the media has been telling Romney to ignore the other candidates and concentrate on Obama. Last time I looked there was another candidate and he seems to be hanging in there despite lack of funds. The way the media treats Romney (for now ) is the same way they treated Obama. That is what I believe people recognize as “scary” about romney and his buddies at the RNC. We had had a candidate pushed on us by the media before and look how well that turned out.

I haven’t ruled it out, but I wouldn’t vote for him today either. It kind of depends on his agenda after he shakes his etch a sketch.

Therein is the whole problem. That etch a sketch -never- stops shaking.
