China has allowed five North Korean defectors to leave for South Korea after they spent months or years holed up in Seoul's Beijing embassy to avoid arrest, media reports said Wednesday.
Chosun Ilbo newspaper, citing a Seoul diplomatic source, said they arrived in the South Sunday after China changed its policy of refusing to let them depart.
Yonhap news agency and other media carried similar reports, and said China was also considering allowing the departure of seven others trapped for at least two years in South Korea's consulates in Shenyang and Shanghai.

There is a great documentary called Seoul Train that discusses and shows what the Chinese government is doing to North Korean defectors. It will make your blood boil.

The Chinese need women and NK women will do. But they don’t want a mass flood coming across the border which will happen if they appear lenient.

Sending them back to NK is a death sentence for them. For them and possibly for their whole extended family.
That is the real point.

Which is also why they will prop up North Korea for as long as possible. When that place falls apart, a lot of folks are going to be headed for both borders, and China definitely doesn't want a flood of North Koreans.
