Gingrich poised to push ahead after huddling with backers
msnbc ^ | March 29, 2012 | Michael O'Brien and Frank Thorp

In the latest evidence that Newt Gingrich isn’t exiting the GOP race anytime soon, the former House speaker ended a closed-door meeting on Wednesday with his backers in Congress poised to push ahead with his campaign, possibly through the June 5 primary in California.

When he sat down this week with 10 of the 11 lawmakers who have endorsed him, each of them took turns offering their assessment of the health of the Gingrich candidacy. While some of the lawmakers expressed misgivings about the toll his continuing in the race would take on the eventual Republican nominee, none of them called on Gingrich to drop out.

Four of the attendees, who spoke with NBCPolitics.com, said that Gingrich's interest in staying in the race is driven by a desire to advance certain policy proposals in the primary and general elections.

“We believe that Newt staying in there is very helpful to the conservative cause,” said Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston, who was among the attendees. “I think Newt was realistic and saying there is a path.”

-snip-

“I encouraged him to do what he feels is in his heart he has to do,” said Texas Rep. Michael Burgess, who attended the gathering.

But to hear the members of Congress who attended the meeting describe its outcome, Gingrich appears no closer to ending his candidacy.

“We kind of came to a collective conclusion that there were still some significant goals and objectives that could be achieved by him maintaining his place in the race," said Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, another participant in the meeting.

Newt might as well continue. Santorum will and his chances to win outright are over, but he will still win primaries. Newt can play spoiler and add his two cents at the convention. My main focus is Romney loses and someone good wins.

Newt should play Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” on the campaign trail. I heard it the other day (always like it in videos of our MILITARY heros) and thought of NEWT. GoNEWT.LOL.

Newt can win delegates in those states that are proportional like Texas on May 29th. Oregon gives a delegate to each candidate that gets four percent of the vote in their primary.

GO NEWT.......

..........”“If you talk to people in the conference, you’ve got some people who want it over. You’ve got some people who have people in the race and want to see them do better,” said Westmoreland, a supporter of Gingrich. “Kind of a mixed bag, but I do think it would be nice to have your nominee on the same page as we are with our agenda. Trying to nail that down has been kind of hard.”.............

Bump!

Ultra rich republicans are having smoke blown up their flying pig exit hole by Romney and Santo..

You would think they were smarter than that..
Not supporting Newt will cost them dearly..
When Obama is re-elected, mounts them, and drives his heart desire home..

UNLESS they are hooked into the federal money machine..
Theres a concept.. republicans complicit with capitalizing the socialism..

Good! He offers not only the sole alternative in his own candidacy but the sole alternative in ideas, since both Romney and Santorum are nothing but GOP-E retreads trying to disguise themselves as something different. So Newt’s ideas could influence the convention in a very positive way and maybe we’d emerge with something better.

You really think the GOPe is behind Santorum? I think you are crazy saying that. The only reason that Santorum is still in the race is because he has won 11 states. 11 states out of 50 is over 20 percent. Newt has won 2 states out of 50 which is about 4 percent which is why the GOPe is not behind him. It is about who can win the General. Santorum would have a much better shot at winning the General than Newt. We would win 2 states with Newt in the General. That is not good.

The longer we wait to nominate a candidate the less time Obama has to smear them before the election. What’s the big rush?

Ultra rich republicans are furious at the amount of money they have had to spend to get "the chosen one" elected. However, I do blame the uninformed voters are much as the gop E and the super pacs. Too many people base their votes on media hits without doing their homework.

What happened to the Tea Party conservatives? what happened to the people that were crying about the rinos? this election is a total disgrace.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Do you have any idea who the GOPE consists of and why they are not behind Newt? Do you have any knowledge at all of the republican party and the internal strife between the establishment and the conservative wings? The more I read your posts I have to think you must have just landed in the republican party yesterday because you have no idea what you are talking about. You don't know Newt's history. You don't know the history of the house and senate surrounding the time Newt was in office. You don't know that they hate him or why. You don't have a clue that those of us who support Newt do so because we want him to win. It is not a matter of only wanting mitt to lose. We support Newt because is is a TRUE conservative and has proved it to us.

And yes the GOPE supports Rick in the sense that he is there to split off the religious conservatives who would otherwise support Newt.

[ What happened to the Tea Party conservatives? what happened to the people that were crying about the rinos? this election is a total disgrace. ]

Unless the election machines are rigged in more than a few places..

NYC, Chicago, and New Jersey are totally corrupt.. you expect that..
BUT the election rot seems to have gone far beyond that..

Democrats and other forces have had a good long time to perfect voter fraud..
Like they say... “its not who votes but who counts the votes..”

Could be “WE” are arguing over an illusion.. its mostly rigged..?
The word Conspiracy don’t seem describe it..
I’m going with “spiritual wickedness in high places”.. maybe in “Low places” as well..

If the american people are basically corrupt.. elections are not the problem..
“We” would have the exact givernment we deserved and that matches “US”..
