It was the picture of poor taste.
An editorial cartoon published Tuesday in the University of Texas at Austins student newspaper has sparked national outrage for suggesting Trayvon Martins killing was being overblown by the media, and invoking an offensive term for African-Americans.
Adding insult to injury, the cartoon misspelled the slain teens name.
The cartoon in the Daily Texan shows a woman wearing glasses holding a book titled Treyvon Martin and the case of yellow journalism. She is sitting in a chair labeled The Media. In the cartoon, she tells a young boy, And then
the Big Bad White man killed the Handsome, sweet, innocent, colored boy!!

What is the offensive term?
Did they declare a fatwa?
The cartoonist made one mistake. The woman in the chair should have been wearing a hoodie.
The racebaiters on the lib side are going to bang this drum til elections. The libs want to make sure they keep the plantations full. If the blacks want the dems so badly they better not cry about living in poverty. We are sick of hearing it.
It’s commentary on the media and it looks accurate to me.
That's probably how it should be spelled -- that is, if it were a name at all.
Now then, how would the youth have spelled it?
I mean, really, have you read his tweets? Do you really want to talk about spelling?
I am a fan of Texas A&M and had long thought that UT veered a bit to the left in many ways.
But having the courage to publish this cartoon may just turn me into a Longhorn fan this year. They'll probably issue apology after apology but just the fact that the ink made it to the paper deserves commendation.
Maybe “colored” was the offensive term. But one never knows what is the non-offensive term. Sometimes it’s “black,” sometimes “African American,” sometimes who knows what it is. Colored was actually a polite term in its day.
But the one sure thing is that no matter what you say, some “activist” is going to rush forward and declare that you used the wrong term.
I wish the US would get over its racial obsession.
I hope so. Even White liberals are getting tired of this race-hustling.
There have been so many FALSE/FAKE racial incidents....who knows anymore.
Maybe we can ring up the NAACP and ask?
Who’s outraged? The lying media and the race baiters they enable? Who cares. How dare anyone speak he truth!
Right. For a second there I thought it was "boy".
“What is the offensive term?”
Apparently, it’s “colored” even though they speak of themselves as people of color. Heck, if I’m white, meaning lack of color, I don’t really see the problem. The next survey I fill out I think I shall designate myself as white-European and cry racism if it’s questioned.
Maybe he spelled it wrong so as not to incur copyright infringement. After all, isn't "Trayvon" a brand now?
a valid consideration. you can’t win for losing with the media.
I believe that is incorrect. White is the combination of colors. Black is the absence of color(s).
This girl was never charged with anything in the FALSE/FAKE Duke rape case. The excuse given, "It would serve no useful purpose."
This from Moscow on the Brazos. Who’da thunk it?
[I’m still not a UT fan, no matter what, although I’d spit on them if they were on fire.]
~ducking and covering~
“Black is the absence of color(s).”
In that case, you’d better start calling me black or I’ll be greatly offended. LOL
