With two presidential signatures- one on New Year’s Day and the other issued last week – President Barack Obama has assumed the right to assert dictatorial powers over almost all aspects of the U.S. economy and to hold American citizens indefinitely without trial!
(This is not some “Space Aliens Invade” story. It is really happening).
On New Year’s Day, Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to fund the Pentagon. But smuggled into its language is an explicit authority “allowing him to indefinitely detain [US] citizens” according to Jonathan Turley writing in the U.K. Guardian newspaper.
While the story was buried in the American media, Turley notes that it is “one of the greatest rollbacks of civil liberties” in American history.
At first, Obama “insisted that he signed the bill simply to keep funding for the troops.” But, Turley reports, “that spin ended after sponsor Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) disclosed that it was the White House that insisted that there be no exception for [US] citizens in the indefinite detention provision.”
Turley is critical of “reporters [who] continue to mouth the claim that this law only codifies what is already the law. That is not true.
The administration has fought any challenges to indefinite detention to prevent a true court review.”

Perhaps even more terrifying is the executive order President Obama signed on Friday, March 16 giving him vast powers to control every aspect of the U.S. economy in the event of war or even during a peacetime “emergency.” Edwin Black, writing for the liberal-oriented Huffington Post, says that the order “may have quietly placed the United States on a war preparedness footing” possibly in anticipation of “an outbreak of war between Israel, the West, and Iran.”

The Order entitled “National Defense Resources Preparedness” gives the president the power “to take control of all civil energy supplies, including oil and natural gas, control and restrict all civil transportation,” according to Black. It also even allows a draft “in order to achieve both the military and non-military demands of the country.”
Obama’s order would be effective both during times of war and times of other emergencies. It says the purpose of the order is to assure that “the United States [has] an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency.” (Emphasis added)
The far reaching order authorizes the president “in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements.”
Likely the president already has most of the enumerated powers as part of his role as commander in chief. So, why the order right now?
Black speculates that it is related to the tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Is the president reminding big oil that he would take over their industry in the event of war? Or is Obama equipping himself with vast powers to be used even in peacetime as a result of whatever he decides is a “national emergency.” Could the rise in gas prices constitute such an “emergency?” Is the issuance of this order right now a shot across the bow of oil companies to get them to go easy on oil prices? Where are we? Stalinist Russia?
In any case, these two presidential signatures – one on a law and the other on an order – together constitute a massive power grab totally unsuited to a democracy. The idea that he would be preparing to assume dictatorial powers seems so remote that the mainstream media has not even reported on these initiatives. But they should give all of us pause.
Has Obozo left anything out?
[x] restrict citizens from protesting near officials. [x] internet 'kill switch'. [x] ability to monitor or jam all non-government communications. [x] establish FEMA 'refugee' camps. [x] train members of the armed forces for domestic policing duties. [x] prepare for economic and civil unrest. [x] authorize confiscation of all resources for national security reasons. [x] authorize killing of U.S. citizens who are considered terrorists. [x] authorize 30,000 drones to fly over the U.S.
I appreciate Mr. Morris’s concerns (and I share them) but hasn’t some of this stuff been signed by every president for some time now “just in case?”
Unfortunately, we live in a country full of lemmings. A country full of gimme, lazy, idiots who expect to be hand fed free food.
Work? Why work when your government can simply steal from hard working people and give it to bums who don’t remember when it was that they last worked?

Obama’s Day of Reckoning is coming in November. I am praying that he will be swept out of the White House by a landslide.
You probably already knew this but, after a check into all the executive orders under Bush and Clinton I found that at no time did either President Clinton nor President Bush aquire these far reaching powers that President Obama has taken.
On the contrary of the 100’s of executive orders that I went through I could not find anything close. So your memory is not serving you.
Now I did find executive orders giving both president’s “In time of war” authorzing powers but this always necessary and part of the “National Defense Autorization Act.” And, I did find certain articles which would have given President Bush authority over things like transportaion, and energy but this was given at and only at a time of war and certainly did not go near what Obama has taken. I mean the power to hold an American citzen indefinately or the right to take over our energy reserves in times of war or national emergency.
Obama has reached so far into our lives with these orders that we have no chance whatsoever if he deciedes to invoke these orders. It’s mind boggling... And I don’t understand it no matter how I do the math.
Soon, he will rule that all of the subjects shall buy a Volt.
Well, he ordered it built and since it is an overpriced POS in an 0bama economy, he certainly will have to force you to buy them and if you can't afford to buy them give you someone elses money to buy them.
He can't have a car of his compared to the Edsel.
It is his complete disregard for Law that has everyone concerned. He is much more likely to do a Chavez-like coup, than any other President in history. He has said so outright. “I wish I could just do everything myself.”
Bottom line is, the majority of Americans and now, the world in general, do not trust him. He is a rogue with no friends, no family, and no allegiances to anything. He would throw Holder or Michelle under the bus as easily as he has everyone else who has every been associated with him.
He is a psychopath with delusions of grandeur. Not uncommon, but he is in a position to make his delusions reality. And the feckless cowering Congress will do nothing to keep him in check. I think Congress tacitly supports an Obama take over. Hey! They are thinking, no more elections and I can vote myself a thousand percent pay-raise? Count me in!! Weak, greedy, scum, all of them.
Where are the American patriots when you need them? Not in Congress! That is for sure.

Perhaps other Presidents have had similar powers, but I never feared that they would use them under some trumped up emergency to become dictator. With Obama I have that fear and the clever manipulation of the wording of these Executive Orders do give Obama unprecedented power to take over the very fabric of the country. Obama has a history of ignoring the Constitution and has pushed his executive power while Congress says and does nothing. If reelected it would be easy for Obama to use some manufactured crisis as basis for a Nazi style putsch.
Yeah, right. Obama and what army? You'd have a mutiny in the Marines first.

Pelosi would sell her left nut to establish a dictatorship in America. Pelosi and Reid both already behave as dictators anyway. Why not make it official. Many Democrats in Congress would ‘love it’ and some have openly called for it. What they do not know, and will never be told, is that the first part of the plan calls for ‘disbanding’ Congress. They are supporting their own political deaths, so to speak. hehehe, that is kind of funny...such fools they are to trust Obama. Make a deal with the Devil, and how can you trust the Devil, i.e., Satan, to follow through? See...he's the Devil. Lying is what he does. Whatever...let them hang themselves, I wouldn't mind.
If he does this thing, he will not need the Marines, he will use U.N. troops. That is the plan anyway.
I'm not saying it will happen, I'm just saying it is more likely now, with Hussein, than ever before in history.
As every conspiracy-theorist like yourself should know, he has to have the trust of his secret inner circle and has to be able to command their loyalty.
As the father of two sons who are Marines, he does not have that level of loyalty.
Remember that old saying, "what if you had a war and nobody came?" Paraphrase, "what if you gave an order and nobody followed?"
Command of UN troops? Don't you think he would have done that by now if he thought he could? And how do you suppose he'll muster UN troops when the whole of the EU and the world mock him now. Do you really think the US military would just sit back and let the blue helmets take over?
