Video Uncovered: Romney in ‘02: ‘Only Connection’ to the Republican Party Is My Party Registration
The Blaze ^ | 3/23/12

With his conservative credentials still taking fire over “Etch A Sketchgate,” Mitt Romney is facing a new potential obstacle to his argument that he is unfailingly a Republican.

A 2002 clip, posted Friday on BuzzFeed, shows then-Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Romney declaring that his “only connection” to the Republican Party in the state is that “I’m registered as a Republican.”

Call everyone in every remaining primary state and tell them to save the election...vote Newt or Paul at this point. Do not allow this guy to get the nomination.

Santorum is an absolute waste.

Santorum is not a waste.

He’s a wonderful candidate and the one to defeat Obama.

Newt and Paul are both insignificant at this time.

That would describe at least one-third of the GOP candidates nationwide, close to one-half of them is swing states like Pennsylvania and probably two-thirds of them in liberal hell holes like Californicatestan and Taxachussetts.

Nothing personal, but that sounds as desperate as a deathbed conversion to avoid certain hell.

The time to start stopping him was in 2008, the day after the last presidential election. We might have gotten a few closed primaries, some better candidates. Plenty of people called for it, too few gave a damn. And the day after the election of 2012 will be the same, except at the keyboards. It takes effort to avoid the non-right default. We are complacent.

Sadly, Santorum doesn’t seem to have the sense to keep on a message that this election will be about. He lets the media side track him to social issues which always make him seem out of the main stream. I agree with his views, but he’s not politically savvy enough to handle the heat. Obama would kill him.

We’re screwed with Romney. Gingrich is the only one that has a chance. And he’s a long shot with all the fodder about him.

Plus his wife looks like an ice queen and she doesn’t come across as likeable. She needs to mess her hair up a little bit.

I think this is hilarious!

I actually laughed watching it.

What say you Ann Coulter, and the rest of the Romney kneecap droolers?

“Read my lips! I am barely a Republican.”

“I’m am to conservatism as vermouth is to a martini. Just wave the bottle at the shaker, then start shaking.”

His response was to a question connecting him to what was then a Republican governor who was doing poorly. He was running against her in the Republican primary until she dropped out. They were trying to stick all the baggage of her administration on him. Romney wasn’t a Republican party insider, so in fact, his connection was that he was registered as a Republican, and he wanted to bring a new administration in to run the state, not more of the same old crap that his predecessor had been doing.

I don’t get how any self-professed conservative or Christian can vote for this guy or even think about it.

He is a pale Obama.

So why is this coming out now?

Couldn’t find stuff like this earlier?

Well, since he already got caught admitting that he’s a progressive, I don’t think this is much of a stretch.

Just remember: we have to rally around Romney! It’s for the good of the country! Heck, his name starts with the letter R even without his political affiliation added on! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Oh, merciful God, how I would love to skip to a brokered convention and flush all these candidates down the toilet.

I agree with everything you said. I think Romney is shot in the foot, so to speak, and Santorum just isn’t ready for prime time, again so to speak.

I doubt Newt can take Obama, though. Hatred and bias and lies are too strong. I hope I’m wrong.

I think people are grasping at straws on this one. I have read many comments from Freepers saying the exact same thing over the years, distancing themselves from the Republican establishment. How many of us rip up RNC donation request we get in the mail? Nearly All of us.

The only hope is a brokered convention at which some kind of “savior” emerges, because Romney is a sure loser in November. He’s falling further behind Obama in poll after poll in pivotal states.. all BEFORE Obama’s campaign and the “media” really go to work on him.

The only silver lining to this is... Mittens will finally get his comeuppance and, after 2012, drift away never to be heard from again. One can only imagine how different this election year could’ve been, had Romney not come and pissed into the water.

I don’t like Romney for what he did to Palin. But this is a bogus clip.

I was very familiar with this campaign being in NH.

Romney here (before it was spliced by BuzzFeed) was clearly trying to disassociate himself with the semi corrupt and fully incompetent Jane Swift (R) admin.

What do the Tea Party people say? It certainly isn’t “I follow the Republican Party line 100%”. Heck, people call Romney the “establishment candidate”. What I like about him is he doesn’t even hang out with the so-called Republican establishment.

AMEN! (seriously).

A brokered convention is our only hope.
