Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Santorum’s finished.
The end is near.
Anything is preferable to Obama.
Even Santorum.
My guy is still Newt.
Would you rather have a known enemy or a backstabbing “friend”?
I have hated Romney as intensely as anyone over the last few years, and I have hated him from the beginning. I don’t like his politics, and his personal manner is disturbing to me because I feel like he’s telling me exactly what I want to hear. You can check my posting history on that.
As long as there was any chance that anyone but Romney could possibly go up against Obama, I supported anyone but Romney. But anything, even Romney, is better than Obama in my opinion. I don’t know how anyone could let Obama win by not voting for the Republican nominee. I mean, I hate Romney, but Romney did go through the process and he is going to be the nominee. The alternative is much, much worse. And Conservatives that can let Obama waltz back into the White House, I almost understand them, but I can’t really understand them.
I’ve wanted Newt since 2008 anyway, but wow...I just lost any respect I ever had for Santorum.
Rick Santorum: “Sure, I can come up with something every bit as stupid as Eric Fehrnstrom. Let me think a minute ... I got it! ‘If Mitt’s the Republican nominee, then you might as well vote for Obama!’ How’s that?”
We know BO will sell America down the river. Romney will support abortion, gun control, taxes, socialized medicine but he isn’t an enemy of America.
The only hope seems to be that we could impact or limit the damage he would do.
Here is the difference between Romney and Obama.
Obama is a blatant socialist, which means it is easier to forment opposition to his socialist policies.
Romney is stealth socialist, who will sugar-coat his socialism to force it down our throats....which makes it more likely under a Romney Administration we would become even more socialist, than even under Obama.

What do you think Romney is more loyal to, The LDS, or the USA?
I feel the same way. I can’t stand Romney, but the prospect of four more years of Obama, who won’t have to be concerned with getting re-elected, is frightening beyond words. Considering what this evil person has done in the past three years, just think of what he’ll do in the next four.
Good grief. There are “hot mike” moments, and then there are moments when you douse your own mike in lighter fluid, hold it over an open fire, and then plunge it down your throat.
“Anything is preferable to Obama.”
I’ve scrapped things off the bottom of my shoe that I’d rather call President than Zero.
(Although Mittens pretty much comes in as a tie.)
The stupidity of your statement is breathtaking.
Doesn’t matter, Romney isn’t going to win anyway. He’s spent the whole primary winning Obama strongholds while insulting conservatives.
Exactly, it’s a moot point anyway....Obama crushes Romney like a bug.
You could be right, of course. I don’t much disagree with you.
But I would have you ask yourself this: Do you really truly think that a protest vote of staying home and not voting for Romney on election day is really truly better for the country than going in there and voting against Obama?
If you can say yes to that, then I trust your conscience. But I have to tell you my conscience tells me I need to go in there and vote against Obama. I think its very, very important that we get Obama out of there.
Santorum from article: "we might as well stay with what we have."
If the GOP-e goes through and gives us Romney, they deserve to be on the ash heap of history, and a new political movement rises from the ashes, that would be better in the long-run.
I think Romney is loyal to himself, his power and his wallet.
Maybe also some of those Nascar owners. Romney will continue the globalization agenda.
“Anything is preferable to Obama.
Even Santorum.
My guy is still Newt.”
I agree. I still say Newt is the best candidate we have. The RINO’s and the media have over powered us once again. I am really dismayed with the Republican electorate. Maybe 30% of them get it.
My guy is always Newt.
Santorum has now jumped the shark.
I now support Newt...who doesn’t stand a chance of catching up. :(
I’ll agree with you on that. If the Republican party could be replaced by something much better in time to win some elections, I’d like to see that happen.
The problem is, even as people like Mark Levin have said, to dismantle the Republican party and put something acceptable in its place would be such a long and divisive process, that we would loose a number of elections in the process.
“Etch-A-Sketch” is the perfect description of Romney....and it came from his own camp.
Romney is not even ready for Prime Time.
Well, there goes Mark Levin's "I'd vote for an orange juice can over Barack Obama" campaign.
Well, there goes Mark Levin's "I'd vote for an orange juice can over Barack Obama" campaign.
I don't necessarily believe that. All it takes is one charismatic leader, and much can be accomplished quickly.
Abominable....I am stunned...wow....
Actually, I'd rather have Newt... sigh.
Wow. He has lost his mind.
Agreed.
While I don’t think this was a politically smart thing to say, I understand his reasoning.
“Better the devil you know, to the devil you don’t”
After stating that I will never vote for Romney, that's about the best argument so far.
If BO gets another 4 yrs. we won’t have any political parties to worry about.
We will all be getting our food from govt surplus, going to govt run health clinics, and watching the Obama channel on tv.
We must all stick together to get him out of office, even if we end up with Ron Paul, oh, my goodness, did I really write that? Yes, and I mean it, too!
Do you have a fever with it?
“Doesnt matter, Romney isnt going to win anyway. Hes spent the whole primary winning Obama strongholds while insulting conservatives.”
And what will cost Romney the election, should he be the nominee, is that many conservatives across the nation will be so discouraged and stay home.
Romney is Obama-lite and Newt, Rick and Ron and no better. Furthermore, I am surprised that some conservatives seem to be supporting Newt, anyway, considering that he has done some very anti-conservative things, such as frantically supporting Dede Scozzafava in NY-23, promoting going after global warming while sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi, among other things.
He is right! I will never vote for Romney! Romney will lose big time to Hussein. No more Rinos.
Santorum is where he is at now because he was the last Anti-Romney to “peak” but if he were to have said something like this a while back, he would be worse toast than Herman Cain. Its too bad that Newt peaked so early leaving Santorum to make an a** out of himself with comments like that.
Consider the other possibility, that a second Obama term will unite Conservatives like never before. United, he can never break us. A Romney Presidency (not that he’s going to win anyway, mind you), will only further fragment the Conservative movement.
I think our only hope at this point is to throw all our $upport behind outfits like SarahPAC and revive the TEA party so we can lobby, influence, force, steer, cajole, and convince the eventual nominee and Congress to stay on the RIGHT course and buy us some time to undo all the statist damage that has been done to our Republic, while we get a real leader and President in 2016.
Scott Walker should be ready by then. Which is why it is so important that he prevails in Wisconsin.
Hahaha. When I hear people say they will vote for Obama if
Romney wins the nod then I figure they would have voted for OBama anyway. I am with Mark anyone but Obama

Anyone who needs a reset regarding voting for the republican nominee, whoever that will be, just needs to try and imagine what America will be after 4 more unfettered years of Obama... Doesn't look like Rick is capable of that kind of mental exercise... being holier-than-thou consumes a lot of mental energy.
What do you think Romney is more loyal to, The LDS, or the USA?
- - - -
That’s an easy one. Romney took blood oaths to put the LDS church above all (not God, not Christ, but an organization).
Frankly, the LDS church NEEDS Romney to be POTUS to stem the tide of people leaving and taking their money with them. They need the money to build more malls.
